CAPOEIRA
I asked for a Martial Arts forum coz I want to know if anyone knows very much about Capoeira (it's a b**ger to spell lol).
I find it fascinating.......is it a true Martial Art?......I've only heard of it recently.
Take look at this
VIDEO
What do you think?

Re: CAPOEIRA
here's one from a MMA fight:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0KfQE2-ZqA
It's exciting to watch but I wonder how it goes on against anyone with a decent guard.

Phew looks tricky and I'm sure that it would be great fun to train in. That said from a martial arts perspective although it seems to deliver stunning knock out power it does leave you awful exposed afterwards and therefore vunerable to a pasting if you miss

Yes it does rather.
I can only do Esquiva and Jinga....none of the difficult stuff lol.
Anyway...welcome to the forum TipToes88.....delighted to have you here.....especially if you'll be posting on our Martial Arts forum lol.
I see you're into Judo......I'd like to eventually have threads for each of the Martial Arts disciplines.....you're very welcome to start a Judo thread on here.........see if we can create more discussion.
Will try to devote more time to the MA forum as soon as I can : )
I'm busy multi-tasking today...forum duties...and watching Cheltenham...and all manner of things here on Button Moon lol.

Re: CAPOEIRA
Capoeira was originally created by slaves - their captors forbid them from practising fighting techniques for fear that they would rebel, so the slaves created a new Martial art that was disguised as a dance. There are two forms of Capoeira, the fighting version and the dance version - both are usually practiced to music. I think a trainer in Capoeira is called a 'Maestro' or something simular.
Absolutely amazing to watch - I've been learning free style martial arts for the last year and would love to have a go at Capoeira but agree with TipToes that unless you are really top level, you are going to leave yourself exposed.
Glad you brought Capoeira up though - amazing martial art. Check out the film 'Only the strong'

Re: CAPOEIRA
Just in case anyone in North West wanted to do it, I know there is a Capoeira club in Liverpool, seems quite reasonably priced from what I remember.
A lot of Brazilian practitioners seem to have some Capoeira skills (Mauricio Rua for one)
I was very tempted to start the classes, but decided to get back into Ju Jitsu again.
What styles do everyone one here practice??

That's what I'd heard.

Hi hockeyking,
Thanks for that......welcome the the Martial Arts forum : )
I practice Chen Style Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) which as I'm sure you know is one of the Internal Martial Arts
I'm learning Cannon Fist (Pau Chui), too, at the moment. I had my first Cannon Fist workshop last Saturday.......it was brilliant! : ). These things take years to master,of course, they can't be learnt in a day lol.
I'm learning Canon Fist purely so I can put more fajin ( that's little burst of power) into the Tai Chi form I practice which, to give it its full name, is Chen Style Taijiquan ( Laojia Old Frame 74 form).
Learning Taijiquan is one of the best things I've ever done in my life......when a friend told me I should do it I wasn't so sure.....I thought it looked a bit tame, like karate for old people lol.........but I gave it a go and was hooked.
Karate for old people......it is not!
Sorry for waffling but I just love Tai Chi!
Good luck with your ju jitsu, hockeyking, you must tell us all about it : )

Welcome clunge4life.....another new poster on the Martial Arts forum : )
I'm trying to get this film, it looks great, but it seems that the only copies are Region 1, which is for America or for multi region DVD players. I'm not sure if my DVD player is multi-region or not.
I might buy a copy anyway, and if my DVD won't play it, then maybe someone I know will have a multi region DVD player.......I'm sure they'd love a night in with some popcorn and Capoiera lol

Anderson Silva is another who has trained in Capoeira as well. Certainly is good to watch altho not really seen much in the way of the fight side. I think its something to get into at a young age, ie mid 20's or younger when you have greater flexability, body strength & balance.
I train in a Muay thai style of kickboxing rather than real Muay Thai. Have also done a bit of boxing aswell as some shaolin style many years ago.
