Feather fists - massive K.O
Afternoon all, I mainly read this board as opposed to comment in topics etc but after reading the various discussions about Froch vs Ward it's got me thinking. A few people have mentioned Ward not being a massive puncher and with Froch's proven whiskers it seams unlikely that he'll end up getting K.O'd which leads me to asking; Can anyone think of a fight where a boxer not know for his heavy hands has knocked out another man who in turn is known for being fairly durable?
Cheers

Martinez was never regarded as a big puncher until he poleaxed Williams who is considered very durable.

Mayweather sparking out Hatton was a bit unexpected. Although Hatton had been down before Mayweather isn't known as a massive puncher.

The guy who decked Kirkland three times for a first round TKO had something like a 30-odd percent KO ratio and was expected to be fodder. Three minutes later everyone was gobsmacked. Ishida, was it?

Can't remember his name but I do remember watching that fight and finding it hilarious as Kirkland is a bit of a tool.

Nobuhiro Ishida he was being lined up as an opponent for Paul Williams before Lara but HBO said he wasn't a good enough opponent.

It was after the Kirkland fight Williams wanted to fight him and HBO still knocked it back.

Joe Shugrue wasn't much of a puncher but knocked out both Benny Leonard and Owen Moran, not bad going.

Al McCoy knocking out George Chip in the first round would be a pretty good example.

Not exactly a good example sir. For a start Mundine wasn't known as a good chinned boxer, in fact he was wasn't known as anything other than a former pro rugby player trying his hand at boxing and was a ten fight novice going into this fight. Typical of Ottke's sham of a career in that this is always on the Ottke "highlight" reel and one of his better wins, when the facts are, Mundine was greener than the green green grass of home and eventually amounted to being nothing more than a fake WBA "regular" champion in his prime.

To be fair Ottke still didn't knock out many...

Re: Feather fists - massive K.O
Ottke wasn't a soft puncher as such, he chose to fight the way he did because it was less risky than being an offensively minded boxer. Add to the fact he knew all along that the refs and judges were in his pocket so remaining upright whilst throwing a few combos per round then running away was all he ever needed to do to win. A total SHAM of a career!
