All Black Injuries Empty All Black Injuries

Post by emack2 Sun 28 Aug 2011, 11:06 pm

Adam Thomson and Kieran Read are injured, awaiting X-rays,Read is expected to take some part in RWC.
Thomson is looking less likely.Thomson was cover for McCaw as well 6 and 8.Liam Messam is the logical
replacement but no number 7.alternatives?

Yeah...messy. France is the next tough game so its not critical til at least then.
Not too worried about Thompson as he hasnt fired last two outings (while uninjured)

McCaw and Kaino. Messam is the obvious next

still....messy. Means McCaw once again isn't covered as well. Perhaps Todd instead?

two things on this.
This left sprained ankle is the same one that was sprained going in to Semi against the Stormers, and he hasnt been right since.
Did anyone else think that Ali Williams contributed a lot more this week playing blindside, because I definitely do. i can see alot of merit playing a 4 that plays 6 against teams like South Africa and England. Leave Vito to cover 7.
For mine messam (as good an athlete as he is ) and Todd are nowhere near it.

I heard this morning (NZ time) Thomsons likely to be out of the cup and Reid will likely miss the first couple of games.

So all of a sudden Thompson after years at 6 is a capable 7, McCaw a capable 8, and now Williams, never played at 6 or 7 now is one and Vito is a 7?

And what about Mils at 13...the final nail...just has an all too familiar ring to it...

I'd rather put Sonny Bill at 7 if this is going on. has the build, strength and so on.

I dont mind players wearing a different number on their back when its addressing injury, combination, etc its when its done for nothing more than for the sake of change I become very nervous.
After Nonu's game on saturday I wouldn't like to see Williams on the field after the pool games.

I know. Was only joking. Theres just this inate ability, and it only happens at world cups to have players out of position.
Thompson was primarily cover for McCaw. His replacement should be a similar- and there arent any, or a 7. Simple as that.

If McCaw goes we'll lose all genuine pace to the breakdown without a specialist 7.

I can't stand this "versatility" argument that Henry seems to be so in love with.

We end up with Toeava, who can't play anywhere convincingly trying to cover the wing for instance, whilst we have 3 full backs in the team.

This AB team is missing a specialist left wing. NZ hasn't been in that state for decades.

After all the talk about how many options we had in the outside backs, I'm stunned that one was so evidently missing on the weekend.

Actually THE best specialist 7 is Marty Holah, some time since an All Black,BUT if Samko can hack it? George Whitelock would`nt let anyone down.
BUT truth is there is a whole generation of loosies who covered 6,7,8,but none specalist in any Thomson,O`Siaolo,Luaki,Masoe,Messam,Vito,to name a few.
Dan and Luke Braid and Matt Todd after a couple of years could do it.
The problem obviously for coaches in a RWC,is if you bring in a replacement
the original player is unavailable.
If for example McCaw was concussed v Tonga, the second match is v Japan,so he has a fortnigt to get right.
BUT a worse injury, replace him and thats it for the rest of the games.

I thought Sam Whitelock was playing 6. Can't remember to be honest. Though after those changes the NZ defence shored up pretty well.

Missed Gear all right on the weekend. We need someone with more go forward, and someone stronger in the tackle. Guildford was brought down all too easily which brings Pocock into play. Our ability to stay on our feet was significantly reduced in the wake of the Australians' increased physicality. I'm really worried about Read as his grunt and knowledge of where to apply it makes our loose trio the best, and also his speed ensures that NZ will usually come on top at the breakdown where McCaw and Pocock/Brussow cancel each other out.

Disney
yes you are quite correct when talking about where they positioned themselves at scrumtime, but in general play Williams was pretty loose.

Whitelock to 8,with Kaino at 6.McCaw at 7,Wiliams and Thorn locking,.

Well just shows how confusing it can all be. Don't know who's playing where now.

For me its simple. Read has had his injury. No more please Mr Read.

We are really (if we're totally honest) concerned about 2 matches. Semis and Final. For that Read, Kaino and McCaw will be the back 3 for both and will have to win the matches before subs are required.

Gear will be back by then through some misfortunate Guilford bike accident.

Loosies solved, left wing solved. Dagg and Mils can do 50/50 at 15.

Everyone ok now?...onto something else...

Is Guildford out of the world cup?

Not yet. But between him and Sonny Bill looks like we'll be carrying passengers.

Read is now 6 weeks Thompson will be back by game 3 so thats a bit better. Good xray results I hear...

I wouldn't risk Read for the France game to be honest.
