After being poor for most of the season, Davies certainly seems to have flourished since being moved up to open the batting.

314 lead at lunch - if we can bat til tea I'd declare then, 400/450 lead. 4 sessions for Le Pew and Nora to 'spin' us to victory!

Probably our best batting session of the season. Well done to Davies and Brain. Great to see Davies with three figures by his name in a Championship innings.
Goochie - sure I'm going to regret asking this but .... Le Pew?

Corporal, re your generous offer (on the other thread) of Gary Wilson... please can we have this Davies bloke instead? He seems to be in a bit of form at the moment!

Chris - I think the Corporal would be facing a court martial if he agreed to that!
Meanwhile, you have four Glamorgan batsmen back in the hutch second time round including our one time skipper Stewie Walters ....

Afternoon all. Patrol called off early for the weekend. This is more like the Surrey batting we were hoping for this season....

The Viscount gets Newton!
That's 62 first class wickets this season and 100 in his career. Proof that sometimes the good guys come out on top. Many - including me - underrated his ability which together with his great attitude, teamwork and unrelenting hard graft will surely get him our Player of the Season Award.
Well done, Viscount!

Glamorgan 148 all out.
18 wickets so far today at Bristol.
When do the pitch inspectors get called in?
Rees c †Coughtrie, Bragg c †Coughtrie, Walters c †Coughtrie,
Allenby c †Coughtrie, Wallace c †Coughtrie, Harris c †Coughtrie
Who needs an Interesting keeper anyway...

Now Meaker strikes as well - we've made decent inroads tonight. So looks promising for tomorrow - even if the Northants tail wags more vigorously than first time round

Are you going to claim the extra half hour tonight?

Re: surrey vs Northamptonshire county Championship division 2
Close of play - doubt that any umpire would agree extra half hour with 6 wickets to fall - (unless it was the Surrey tail). More to the point perhaps was whether Gloucs would claim their extra half hourChrisfromStroud wrote:Are you going to claim the extra half hour tonight?

Re: surrey vs Northamptonshire county Championship division 2
On a day when 18 wickets had already gone, I think Gloucs would have rather feared an extra half-hour.
As it was, they lost a wicket in the penultimate over....
and sent out a nightwatchman....
who had lasted just 3 balls batting at 11 in the 1st innings.
Do I recall some opinions earlier today on the merits of a nightwatchman?

Re: surrey vs Northamptonshire county Championship division 2
I do wonder whether you actually read any threads before commenting on them, cricketfan. Meaker is very talented and very quick but his accuracy lets him down sometimes. He started this season on fire and took 20 odd wickets @ 18 in the CC before he got an injury. Since then he has been poor and failed to reproduce this form until yesterday when he took 5-37 including a triple wicket maiden.
Brilliant day for Surrey today, Davies finally found his form and now has over 380 runs from his last 3 innings! I really hope that we stick with him and Hyphen opening in all forms of the game for a good while as I have been very encouraged since the move to promote Davies in the CC.
Also, massive congratulations to the Viscount, amazing season!

Re: surrey vs Northamptonshire county Championship division 2
What do peoplethink about Davies' chances of making the Winter Tours?
Until a few weeks ago, I would have said no chance as he had been poor and not picked in any of the Lions squads, however the fact that his return to form has coincided with him being moved to open the innings means that there is a chance that he could be taken; he could cover for Cook/Strauss aswell as Prior (and there are not many other reserve openers setting the world alight at the moment).

"Kids go for free as Glos chase for victory tomorrow" says the Gloucs website.
Well, that's put the kibosh on that then!
What says the Surrey one about Northants chasing 500?
