Who will win county championship?
Eventful days play. At Worcester looks like a low scoring match, already well advanced. Lancs took no batting points and Worcs already have a lead approaching 50 with 4 wickets in hand. Still possible for them to come back tho.
Somerset in trouble against Hants at Taunton. Scraped 1 batting point and Hants are only 80 behind with 9 wickets in hand. With players missing Somerset may struggle to regain momentum after a disappointing performance in the final....
Warks had a good day against Yorks at Edgbaston restricting visitors to 254 for 8. But remains to see whether they can bat any better than Somerset or Lancs.
Durham 360 - 9 away to Sussex - but despite this they remain outsiders.
Warks seem best placed at this stage.

Seems like Lancs are another team that can't quite get over the finishing line in the cc. Sounds like a woeful performance against Worcs.
Warks not certain to win against Yorks but they have possibility of a useful lead and to get 3 or 4 batting points.
Remarkable that Hants had another massive partnership today - they look bound to win against Somerset, whose season is in danger of falling apart.
Durham - strong performance, but they've probably left it too late if Warks do go on to beat Yorks.

Good fightback from Yorks. Both Yorks and Warks need a win so we may see an agreed declaration tomorrow.
Somertset hanging on but still look certain to lose. Durham look likely to win.
So the key game is Warks..... Hope there is a good crowd tomorrow....

Re: Who will win county championship?
Yorks declared - Warks face challenging target of about 350. A draw would be no good for Yorks but I guess Warks would take the draw if their chase falters...

Re: Who will win county championship?
Warks inability to bowl out Yorks in the second innings has set them back. Still favourites but not so clear cut.
Lancs fortunate to be in the hunt after their abject performance against Worcs.
Durham's position could yet be stronger than they could have hoped for, especially if there is bad weather around.
Somerset probably out of it barring some rather selective intervention from the weather....

Warks about to be Notts.......
Probably means that Lancs will need to set Hants a realistic target to give themselves good chance of bowling them out.....

Warks win
Not exactly a generous declaration by Lancs, setting Hants target of over 350 from around lunchtime.....

Into the last round of matches - Warks looking good against Hants - all set for a big score but not with max bonus points.
Lancs struggling against Somerset - Hildreth a big not out century.

Re: Who will win county championship?
by lunchtime today, i think we will know who is going to be the eventual winners,i know its only day 3, but i think if warwickshire or lancashire have a really good session, then you can start to tell.

Churchy (cricket commentator on Radio London and generally worshipped by the Surrey faithful) has just said that currently Warks and Lancs are dead level on points!
Warks seem to be making a pigs ear of things. They certainly batted far too long ....

Looks like Warks on target for the title and their tactic of batting long and grinding down opposition is paying off.

Guildford - maybe. But I feel the spirit will have been knocked out of Hants.
I will be pleased for Rikki Clarke if he picks up a championship with Warks...

Re: Who will win county championship?
Well, Corporal, guess you won't see this until after evening patrol but thought you would like to see how the day went.
Not well for the Bears this morning, that's for sure.
No wickets at all for Warks during the entire first session.
JimBo's boys are going down to Division Two but not without a fight. Hants 178 - 3 at lunch. A lead of just 9. However, the countdown click is ticking for the King of Spain and his boys.
Meanwhile, Somerset lead Lancs by 105 runs but with only 2 wickets left.
In Division Two Middlesex need 80 more to pip us to the title. Hoggy's heroes still need 10 wickets ....

Carberry out because of a terrible decision by the umpire

Just seen it. Dreadful decision. Playing a shot, outside the line, too high.
As someone suggested this morning on the wallpaper site (another forum), Surrey could do a lot worse than try to re-sign Carberry for their forthcoming Division One adventures ....

Well, Corporal, tea time now and I reckon the Bears' best (perhaps only) chance lies with Somerset.
The Bears have only taken 2 wickets today (and one of those was mighty dodgy as flagged above). They still need 5 more and trail by about 90 runs. They are soon going to be timed out of beating JimBo's boys.
Lancs meanwhile need about 180 more in the final session to beat Somerset and probably win the title. They have all 10 wickets standing but that's still a mighty ask.
As covered elsewhere, Hoggy's heroes didn't quite live up to their billing and went down to the Muddle although they made a decent fist of things.

Re: Who will win county championship?
This is set up tremendously, I just hope it doesn't disappoint. My take on events is that I see the Hampshire-Warks game peterring out to a draw and it all coming down to the Lancs game and at this moment in time I feel that they are going to do it. There is the Indian sign on Lancs, but for me they are favourites right now.

RE: Carberry,
Jimbo, perhaps you could be persuaded by a swap for the wicketkeeping of the lesser-spotted Gary Wilson. He's nothing spectacular with the willow, but has at least demonstrated that he knows which end of the bat to hold. Something that a certain Master Bates (tee hee ) has yet to show the cricketing world!

Lancs beat Somerset by 8 wickets and win the County Championship as favourites Warks can only draw against Hants

JimBoHammers - I hope your boys are sent a case of champagne from Lancs. A magnificent performance today to hold off the Bears and help Lancs to the title. Although you are down, you are certainly not out. Well done!
Meanwhile, the King Of Spain will be sharpening his axe as he surveys his kingdom. The Bears had the porridge in their bowls and then spilt the lot!

Re: Who will win county championship?
i think warwickshire were undone by their lack of a quality spinner, metters took 5 115, but anyone that watched it, would agree with me, that he didnt bowl that well at all, ask westwood lol..

Yep, we deserve half of their money Great effort from us, we could of just gone in and slogged and got out cheaply but we stuck to our game. Well done to Mckenzie and Carberry who batted superbly
