Munster v Dragons Game Discussion
Munster Team to play Newport Dragons:
01 Marcus Horan
02 Mike Sherry
03 Stephen Archer
04 Billy Holland
05 Mick O'Driscoll
06 Peter O'Mahony
07 Niall Ronan
08 James Coughlan
09 Peter Stringer
10 Ian Keatley
11 Denis Hurley
12 Lifeimi Mafi
13 Danny Barnes
14 Doug Howlett
15 Johne Murphy
16 Damien Varley, 17 Wian du Preez, 18 John Hayes, 19 Dave Foley, 20 Tommy O'Donnell, 21 Tomas O'Leary, 22, Scott Deasy, 23 Simon Zebo
Have to say very happy with that team. Ian Nagle misses out through injury. Should be fit by next game.

Re: Munster v Dragons Game Discussion
A strong looking lineup Stag. I expect Munster to roll on much like last year in the League.
The backs will be hard to contain and they retain a reasonable amount of experience in the pack. Bench doesn't look bad either.
Who's the guy Hayes? Academy player?

Delighted to see Sherry and O'Mahony get starts. Think the pair of them are great.
Re: Munster v Dragons Game Discussion
That just looks like the Munster 1st XV to me? Isn't there a WC on?.....

I think Varley will be dangerous once he improves his lineouts. I've seen him throw a few crooked darts and when that creeps in a hooker can become effected by it. Apart from that I rate him as a very talented hooker. Surprised he's not starting.

It is except for: Jerry Flannery, BJ Botha, Paul O'Connell, Donncha O'Callaghan, Donnacha Ryan, David Wallace, Denis Leamy, Connor Murray, Ronan O'Gara, Keith Earls and Felix Jones.
I'd say apart from that then yea its probably our 1st XV

Hmmm. Looking down the list, at least half that squad are either past it or not good enough. Must be my Leinster bias kicking in. Or perhaps I am a subconscious WUM.

Re: Munster v Dragons Game Discussion
Stag, definitely 10 for Tovey. A bit slow for 15 IMO, but has good vision, a great kicking game from hand an his place kicking is getting back to where it was before last season (he changed his style at the start of last season for distance, but it went belly up so he changed back and his % went back up.
Looking forward to seeing the wing Mike Poole for the dragons: a former cage fighter and prolific try scorer in the Welsh Prem with Newport he's a big lump who can also create and offload, which helps.

Plus he's a pretty big hitter and is going to sit Howlett right down

Am hoping for a big season from Archer. Its a strong front row and I expect us to scrummage well.
Strong 11 to 15 also with potentially our best 12 and 13 combo.

Re: Munster v Dragons Game Discussion
Good to see Thomas on the bench after two nasty injuries and I like Coombes as well.
Where is Lewis Evans, thought he would have been involved. Hope Ellis can come through this season as we are likely to be without Toby for 6 nations as well.
What's happened to Gus as well seems to have dropped quite way down order at mo.
Hope Smith can have an injury free season as well as we look far more suspect when he's not there.

Excellent red,
I must admit that I was bit miffed whe nhe was first appointed as would rather have seen Jingsley Jones go in there but Edwards really does seem to have instilled a great team spirit down there and the boys really play for each other.

Re: Munster v Dragons Game Discussion
encourages the team to play heads up rugby, which usually means running any turnover ball which is good to watch, i just hope we dont follow the same pattern that wales did in the aftermath of the 05GS playing brilliant offloading rugby all the time, being sussed out and trying to do it before weve gone forward and created space out wide,
but so far completely happy with edwards-this season will be a big test of his coaching abilities

Still need a few big (physically as opposed to in name) players in especially at T/Head and 2nd row.
Couple of Russians maybe.

Interesting that POM is captain for this, must be expecting a big season from him if he has been given the captaincy over o'driscoll. I hope he has learned how to talk to refs because he seemed to talk himself into trouble when he played for munster last year. Hope that sherry comes good for Ireland and munster's sake.

Have you actually seen Russias scrum? I mean, even after Newport-Gwent Dragons thrashed them 40-12 you still think because they are russian they must all spit nails and breathe fire?

I have seen the Russian scrum twice, when I went to the games against the Dragons and Ospreys, it isnt that bad actually, and Popov the loose head is pretty useful.

Looking forward to heading down to the game. Should be a good one. A double header of sorts, soccer at Turner's Cross at 5 o'clock and Munster at 7.45. The stadiums are only 5 minutes apart. Anyone heading to Musgrave,I would encourage to got to the soccer game, particularly as it's Cork v Limerick.

Two excellent tries from Munster...they'll be aiming for a bonus point win. Dragons will need to get a score in first during the second half. Hopefully they can get something together.

Re: Munster v Dragons Game Discussion
Great tries from Munster. We need to compete better at the breakdown. Munster are slowing it down well legally just by being very competitive in defence, whereas the dragons are getting bounced out of the ruck when we try to compete on munster ball. This is giving munster great quick ball and a bit of a broken defensive line ahead of them when they attack, while we're ending up a bit static in attack with out backs receiving the ball stood still with a brick wall in front of them.
So far munster are doing a typical munster on us, even without their Irish internationals.

Uh-oh not a good start for the Dragons. Their no.3 has been binned, but at least (for them) Keatley misses the penalty.

Dragons slipping tackles, Riley is a liability in mid field. Munster getting away with murder in the rucks, how many penalties are they getting away with before yellow?.

Maybe an opportunity for Dragons going into last quarter with a man advantage, Munster look flat now.

Thought that yellow was completely the wrong decision. The player on the ground was completely immaterial as he wasn't impeding the ball.
