GSP vs Diaz offical card
Hi All,
The full official card has been announced for UFC 137 GSP vs Diaz, Oct. 29th
MAIN CARD
Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz (for UFC welterweight title)
Carlos Condit vs. B.J. Penn
Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Roy Nelson
Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop
PRELIMINARY CARD
Donald Cerrone vs. Dennis Siver
Tyson Griffin vs. Bart Palaszewski
Tim Credeur vs. Brad Tavares
Jeff Curran vs. Scott Jorgensen
Eliot Marshall vs. Brandon Vera
Danny Downes vs. Ramsey Nijem
This card looks stacked! Dennis Siver and Tyson Griffin only make it to the Prelims, and Silver is on a 4 fight win streak and is 7-1 in his last 8 UFC fights! You have also got TUF fighter Ramsey Nijem on the prelims as well.
The main card if it stays like it is should be a mammoth card as well. I don’t know much about Hatsu Hioki other than the fact he is meant to be ranked #2 featherweight in the world ATM. Carlos Condit vs. B.J. Penn is going to be a war! I am really looking forward to Matt Mitriones biggest test to date against Kongo (Mitrione is supposedly a training partner and good friend of Pat Barry so will be looking to avenge his mates loss in this fight), and a loser goes packing fight me thinks in the Cro Cop Vs Big Country fight.

A great card, and agreed about Cro Cop vs Nelson. Personally I think it's a bit sad how they're treating Nelson and Cro Cop. With Cro Cop I think the UFC are just waiting to he finishes his current contract then he'll be dropped.
With Nelson, because his physique goes against Dana's/UFC's image of a fighter they keep putting him against tough opposition and looking for him to lose IMO.
Has any TUF winner faced his level of competition straight out of the house?

to be fair to the UFC it is hard enough for them to turn skeptics into believers but if they want to be considered a genuine sport that earns mainstream acceptance, not to mention being the no 1. MMA promotion in the world, then the athleticism of their fighters is important to that cause. Nelson resists that and it makes him look like an amatuer and the UFC are tainted by association.
Mir said himself that he thinks if Roy cut weight to 205 then he could be successful in the light heavyweight division. Considering Roy's height I think Mir could be right. If Roy chose to get in shape he could become light heavyweight champion. Imo its Roy's own fault if UFC release him.

.........
Maybe not. But there's never been a TUF fighter with as much experience/big fights as Nelson so I see why UFC done it. Also the HW division isn't the biggest. You win a fight and your pretty much in the top 10/15 fighters.
Could be a different Nelson in this fight. He looked much slimmer the last time I seen him.

Can't wait to see Hioki! He's a great sub specialist in the mould of Aoki. Didn't realise he was on this card. That main card is immense!

Be interesting to see what weight Nelson comes in at. He blamed a bout of the flu last time against Mir for his lack lustre performance so he needs to make a point in this one.
Does anyone else feel for Siver, he has been matched quite hard recently and he surely would have had a shot at the title by now if he had racked up a streak like this before the WEC merger.

I'd love to see a trimmed down Nelson but just can't see it.
Would be interesting to see him at LHW but he doesn't seem to want to change his lifestyle so can't see him ever losing enough to fight at LHW.

just watched some youtube highlights of him and he does look a good prospect - I really liked the way he sets up the triangle choke from the ground and pound position and then naturally when his opponent rolls over to protect their faces he automatically has the triangle on. Very impressive.

Yeah you have to feel for Siver because he is just unlucky in the fact he is probably in the hardest division in the UFC at the moment. There is a bottle neck of top contenders in the lightweight division and as much of an argument you can make for Siver getting a title shot there are at least 4 others that you could make arguments for as well (Melvin Gullard, Clay Guilda, Ben Henderson and even really an Antony Petis or Jim Miller despite both on losses have an argument for being above Siver). But yeah, harsh for Siver at the moment if he wins this fight I still think he is probably at least 2 more fights away from a title shot , with one of them having to be against an Antony Petis or Jim Miller IMO.
