Going cold turkey Empty Going cold turkey

Post by Aaronb33 Sat 03 Sep 2011, 11:03 pm

I've had a thought. I'm going to give up sites like this and spoiler sites for a month to see if I enjoy wrestling more as a result. I feel like losing the element of surprise is hindering my enjoyment, so I'm trying to get it back.

Don't know if anybody really gives a monkeys but as of midnight Sunday/Monday, it's happening. For those that are interested, I'll post here tomorrow to any replies then I'll come back in a month.

I know what you mean. It really ruins it sometimes. You sit there thinkin "I would be marking out big time right now if I hadnt already read about it earlier!". I make sure I dont read anything about Raw until I have watched it, the same with Smackdown. I didnt visit here at all after Money In The Bank until I had wathed it as I didnt want anything being spoilt.

What happens come Tuesday if something brilliant happens on RAW, you'll be desperate to talk about it

I also avoid the spoilers until I've watched Raw or SD. The element of surprise makes it more enjoyable. But as Gaffer says, when something big happens you will want to talk about it.

But, if something you think great has happened you don't want that bubble to be burst by everyone else saying it is roody poo etc...

I might want to talk about it, but I don't want to see predictions for the next episode. If they turn out to be right, it really takes the edge off in my opinion. Plus, as Josh says, if someone thinks it's rubbish, I'd be a lot less likely to post about something.

Dont be put off by others disagreeing with you. If everyone had the same opinions the forum would not work. Variety of ideas, likes and dislikes is what makes the world go round.
I tell Hobo he is wrong on a daily basis. Very Happy

I very seldom read spoilers, I don't feel being on a Wrestling forum hinders my enjoyment though, I like to talk about it and how I see things playing out, I like reading how others see things playing out and often find it interesting how two people watching exactly the same thing have two very contrasting views, if however anyone feels their enjoyment and/or opinion is swayed by someone so easily on a forum then perhaps staying away would be the best option

I tend to avoid spoilers where possible though it would be an interesting experiment to see if enjoyment is increased by not knowing things... an example would be: would I have been more excited by / enjoyed the debut of Sin Cara or Kharma more had I not known in advance from 606v2 who they were, when they were likely to debut etc?

Gaffer, I'm not saying coming on here hinders my enjoyment, I'm saying it might be, that's why I thought this might be interesting to find out.

Never read the spoilers before watching either Raw or Smackdown , i have my own opinions on each programme but do enjoy reading what everyone else has made of a certain spot or storyline .

Good luck though Aaron hope it works for you .

I don't understand how you can possible formulate an opinion on something that you haven't seen?

Never go on here until I've seen Raw on a Tuesday after work. I rarely watch Smackdown

I've often thought about doing this myself.

I always avoid Raw spoilers now. But still, like you say, it does spoil things a bit when you know someone has signed a contract before they show up.

Prime example - that CM Punk promo, it would have been much more exciting if I didn't know that they had filmed the next episode straight after, and prety much confirmed that it was a work. Imagine a whole week of wondering if being pulled off air was real.

I dont like Turket as you arent allowed to put toilet paper down the basin.

Wait a minute thats Greece.

I have no opinion on Turkey - hot, cold or the country.

I do have a question though - why is coming off something referred to as cold turkey?

I did know this, but forgot it.

I remember my guess would be that it's because if you're giving up an addiction then you get the shivers, and the goosebumps - like a turkey (or is that like a goose?). But that was a totally wrong.

What was it?
