Who would keep wicket for an all time test XI?
The 606v2 all time test XI - the wicket keeper
Right everyone, you know the drill, who will stand behind the stumps when the all-time world XI takes on the all-time Raxacoricofallapatorius XI sometime in the future (or the past, no one's quite sure yet)?
PS: once again, if you wish to vote for someone not on this list, you are of course allowed to do so

Knott for me.
One of the greatest 'keepers of all-time and no mug with the bat.

Gilly was a far better batsman though. Knott was a terrific keeper but as was Gilly.

Gilchrist was a good/very good 'keeper, Knott was probably one of the all-time top 10 glovemen IMO.(Difficult to be sure as, even as old as I am, I haven't seen them all )

Gilly is the best wicket keeper batsman of all time

Hmmm forgot about him I'm afraid, are you voting for him or just saying he deserves a shout?

Depends where you want him to bat, if it's in the top 6 then Gilly, if it's at number 7/8 then Knott. (But I'm choosing Gilchrist )

Knott for me.In an All Time XI your top 6 should be good enough to score the runs. And Knott was no slouch with the bat.
If we are taking about purely batting then Flower was a better batsman than Gilly IMO.

The best wicket keeper i've seen is James Foster picks up so many half chances for Essex, however although capable he is not brilliant with the bat. But if you include wicket keeper batsman it would have to be Sangakkara he is just a class act.

Depends what you want, snagakarra is a great batsman in asia, not outside of it.
Boucher is the best gloveman, but bats to low down the order.
Combination wise Flower.

Batting wise:Flower with Gilly a close second
Sanga's batting is not very good when he keeps.
Keeping Wise:Bob Taylor

Godfrey Evans is regarded as our best keeper by some.

If Gilly batted for 2 hours though, he took the game away from the opposition. Something you couldn't say about Flower, no matter how much he averaged.

But then Gilchrist wasn't Australia's No. 1 batsman, whereas Flower was Zimbabwe's.
Gilchrist batted with the confidence bred of being part of one of the most successful teams of all time. Flower batted as the only class batsman in a poor team, knowing that, should he get out, his teams main chance of runs had gone.

What about the late South African keeper in the mid 1960's to early 1970's Denis Lindsay? During his time as a player, he was like what Adam Gilchrist was for Australia in terms of sheer destructive power and the ability to produce devastating attacking batting shots.

He's another that played few tests, Gilly also had a better batting record than him.

But that is because Gilly has had more chances to play test cricket. What is Gilly's highest ever batting average in any of his test series he has played in his test career? Does anyone know?

Re: The 606v2 all time test XI - the wicket keeper
Here is the list of Gilchrist's batting records, series by series. His highest average came in the series against NZ in 04-05, where he averaged a remarkable 171.5, at a SR of better than a run a ball...

Re: The 606v2 all time test XI - the wicket keeper
Noticed in the early part of his career his average was very high. Very consistent also.
Re: The 606v2 all time test XI - the wicket keeper
Best gloveman I saw was Bob Taylor.
Most destructive batsman - Gilly (hands down).
But in the same way that I would rather have Rahul Dravid batting for my life across all conditions vs Virendar Sehwag, I would - test matches in difficult conditions much rather have Andy flower over Gilly.
Flower's glove work was top draw - so for tests I would selct Flower, for ODIs Gilly.
