Star Power Build Up Thread
The biggest fight of the year is nearly upon us the best boxer in history Floyd Mayweather comes up against a top 10 p4p young lion in Victor Ortiz. The WBC belt will be on the line and the fight will be at welterweight (147 pounds). No catchweight or stipulations like other fights.
The fight will be held on September 17, 2011, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be televised on HBO PPV and Primetime TV in the UK. The Saul Alvarez vs Alfonso Gomez bout will take place at a different site, but will air on the same broadcast.
Fight Card:
Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz
Erik Morales vs Lucas Matthysse
Saul Alvarez vs Alfonso Gomez
Jesús Vargas vs Josésito López
Not only is this the biggest fight of the year it also has the best undercard in history not one undercard can compare to this one you have 3 main events and 1 supermega event. I urge all members of this forum to purchase the fight on PPV...I heard there is a link primetime has sent you to get the fight if your in the UK and some lucky members will get a free stream. If your from the USA then purchase the fight on HBO otherwise you will miss one of biggest events in boxing history.

Bloody hell, you're going to put Primetime out of a job at this rate, that is the biggest hype-fest I've ever seen in my life.
Greatest fighter of all-time? I think there may be about 20 others with something to say about that.
Greatest undercard of all-time? I think Don King may have something to say about that.
Full marks for effort, though.

Re: Star Power Build Up Thread
Jeez, anyone would think you're Primetime's long lost brother with the amount of exaggerrated hype you're pumping into the article
He doesn't lose a round and could well stop Ortiz late on.
The undercard is average and the only competitive fight is between a shot fighter and a b-level fighter.

Personally I think Froch v Ward is biggest fight of the year as it could go either way. Floyd will walk this one. Good undercard mind

120-108 UD on all three cards. As Coxy said though, wouldn't be surprised by a late stoppage.

Just think we've got another FMJ vs Gatti kinda result, naturally i'm not comparing Ortiz to the great man but rather their respective levels of talent... both easy to hit etc. Floyd doesn't get beaten by crude sluggers.
Looking forwards to the Morales fight more to be honest, even though he's a faded legend i still enjoy watching him fight.

I haven't been so excited watching a fight for a long time as I was during Morales Maidana. Every time Erik landed I was up off my seat!
Re: Star Power Build Up Thread
I don't think it will be a shutout because all these layoffs will show on Floyd..
sure there will be some energy conservation early and Ortiz may lead after five or six rounds...
Problem is the more tired he gets the more open he becomes and Floyd is a great surgeon......
Like Hatton it will be close early..

Thing is Truss for all Hattons huffing and puffing he was going behind with each round pretty much. Didn't land much on FMJ and i still fancy Floyd to sneak rounds by landing the more eye catching shots etc

Like De La Hoya fight then. He won the first half and Floyd took the later rounds. Still undecided on that fight. Havnt watched it for a long time. Such a boring fight. I hope Ortiz puts up a good show

Re: Star Power Build Up Thread
Thing is we have to summise what Floyd we are going to see....
Oscar looked good in training for Manny....
Sooner or later Floyd will pay the price for inactivity and lose some speed and reflex..
Have to factor in whether Ortiz can play on these facts or whether he's too ordinary to exploit..
Think it's the latter but not a shutout for me.....

118-110 FMJ if it goes to the cards, though I'll be having a flutter on Floyd to stop him/Ortiz quit sometime in rounds 10-12.

Victor Ortiz is a tougher fight than both the Sugar Rays for Floyd Mayweather...This fight is a must buy on PPV.

Re: Star Power Build Up Thread
Guys have you ever heard the saying "once a cheater, always a cheater" well in Vicky Ortiz case its " once a quitter, ALWAYS A QUITTER". Vicky has shown to the world that underneath the well conditioned physique, the hardship endured as a kid and the mythical Mexican machismo lies a quitter through and through and we have Maidiana to thank for that.
Vicky thinks just as Khan does that Floyd will be an easy way to make big money as Floyd is not the feared ko artist but Floyd will punish Vicky and humiliate her like he did Marquez,Hatton and Mosley. Vicky does not fool me what did she say after the Maidiana fight " Im too young to be taking a beating like this" haha and you guys give him a chance against one of the best to ever do it....please dont be fooled. If Floyd calls out a fighter it is a odds on win.

Victor Ortiz is a strong young lion coming off a fight of the year win over Andre Berto and showed he was no quitter...The best fighter at 147 for Floyd Mayweather to take on.

I imagine so. Depends if I'm at home or at a mates.
The way things are going I'll end up getting smashed and missing it. Don't think I can do that to Floyd though.

Listen to the after fight interview, he confirms it himself. People are praising Ortiz after 1 fight a fight in which he was tagged and floored easily. We all saw it and guess who was also ringside watching it also yep PBF himself. Believe it Floyd has his number and would not pick the fight if he did not notice that with his style he would not just beat Vicky Ortiz but look good doing it also.

No I'm not they are nothing alike. Ortiz quit against Maidana and beat Berto who was unproven. I'm a Floyd fan and not a stalker/maniac like you but Ortiz isn't a fair fight. Floyd is level above the guy.

The superbowl and champions league final aren't PPV only boxing feels the need to screw it's fans in such a mannner. They are watched by more people so they are a bigger event.
