Evening all. Great recovery and particularly good to see Jordan show at least one side of his potential as an all rounder - let's hope we see the other side tomorrow.
Ditto a useful knock from Meaker who really ought to have potential as a bowler who can bat a bit - a genuinely useful number 9.

Corporal - and Batty a near certainty to win that award you suggested a few weeks back: ''Player not to have performed as badly as we all feared''!

Guildford - yes the books have closed on that award as well, I reckon!

I think we need an award for "Player to have performed exactly as badly as we expected"
Wilson?

Maybe he would also get the award for services to the sports drinks industry?

To be fair to Wilson, he wasn't given much of a chance before being dropped and he was doing better than Brown, despite the fact that he was playing out of position

True. Never should have been an opener, If we lost Davies at any point I'd be happy for him to bat at 7 but not really in the top 6. In terms of batting options available I would say Spriegel and Harinath are ahead of him in my book for 'next in line'.

After a tight start, Meaker come on and the batsmen filled their boots and contniue to do so. Hopefully Ojha will perform like the last game.

Agreed jimbob, Meaker's knocked another one over immediately, that's 205-8, a lead of 70+ would be handy. I must admit, I feel a lot more confident setting a target with Le Pew bowling in the 4th innings though

believe it or not, i would like to see grayson sign, chapple next season..
cos we have masters, but apart from that we dont have a seamer, that is consistent, and thus we leak too many runs.

Re: surrey vs essex county championship division 2
Weather forecast isn't good for tomorrow so I think we had to try and force the pace a bit tonight. Very annoying to lose Wine Gums to the last ball of the day though, from here we could conceivably be left with a lead of under 200 but hopefully Le Roi can come to the party and the tail will wag again and at least get us up to 250 which I think will be a challenging target against Viscount and Ojha. I wouldn't bother bowling Meaker until they are 4/5 down, he's getting decent at knocking over the tail again!

Re: surrey vs essex county championship division 2
Hi guys,
Been on loan and under ground at the London salt mines most of today. Just catching up now.
The Viscount's great form just goes on (66 and counting!) whilst Meaker seems to be getting his back with a successive match fivefer. Well done to both!
Surprised that Ojha bowled 21 overs (and went on average for 4 runs an over) whilst Nora didn't get to turn his arm over at all. Nora is clearly now the support act to Ojha but I would still expect him to feature if more than 20 overs of the slow stuff gets bowled in a day.
A lot now resting on the Brain and Le Roi . We're currently on top but a couple of quick wickets in the morning could easily change things. Ideally, I would like us to get another 150 or so runs tomorrow and set them them around 320. That would mean Essex needing to make the highest innings score of the match in the fourth innings to win - that's always a very difficult ask.
As Carrot suggests, a target of 250 plus will probably be more realistic and still wouldn't be easy fror Essex. Provided we set a decent target, I'm fairly confident that our bowlers will again be able to take 10 wickets. It will therefore be more than handy if our tail can wag once more and the weather can continue to behave ....

Re: surrey vs essex county championship division 2
Evening all. Brilliant again by the Viscount. And Meaker - who never does average.
I'd say the match was poised pretty much evenly now at 50/50. Despite their excellent performance in the first innings our lower order is pretty fragile most of the time. But maybe the Brain, fortified by his new contract, will dig in. The forecast doesn't look too bad so a draw is very unlikely.
Surprised that Batty didn't bowl at all.....

A draw does nothing for us tbh so I'm quite glad that there will be a result in this match one way or another. surprising about Batty but perhaps there wasn't much spin on offer and Ojha was used more as a way of holding up an end which I think he did well apart from against Ten Doeschate who went a bit mental against him!

Poor start this morning. Roy hit a six then got out straight away and now Batty has gone cheaply. We need another innings from Jordan here!

Plus going to watch cricket at Chelmsford is the cricket equivalent of watching Millwall.
These two are doing nicely here. We need a lead of 250 at least, preferably 300 to make sure.
