I disagree,he's miles away from Cena and Orton.

Sheamus,Miz,Christian,Morrison are all miles behind the top 2. This is a scary thought.

It's nothing new though is it.
Least in this day and age the other guys get to hold the strap for a while.

New Gen era
Bret, HBK, Taker

Attitude era
Austin, Rock, HHH,

Invasion era
Angle, Lesnar

PG era
Cena, Batista, Edge

Reality era
Cena, Orton....Punk?

Yes theres lots of other guys you could claim were bonafide in the other eras, Foley in Attitude, Guerrero Invasion, Warrior wedged between Golden and New Gen but it's really not that different now to what it's always been.

There should be no question Punk is now a legit main eventer, but yeah traditionally WWE have always been quite protective over its poster boys so as to capitalise on their popularity as much as possible.

Punk is a legit main event guy now and so is Triple H even if his in ring appearences are sporadic these days, in the space of a year the WWE lost Michaels, Batists, Jericho and Edge, it takes time to build up guys to that level of credibility, bit of patience would be required but they are doing an alright job, in that time they've tried to build Punk, Miz, Del Rio, Barrett and Christian

Well it don't matter because they're all carbon copies.

It's funny how give it time always comes into play but nobody puts anyone over. If they did we wouldn't have the Orton Cena show all the time.


Del Rio won't come out of this feud better for it,not a prayer. It's just another heel for Cena to pile through. It's funny punk made Cena look good,as soon as punk gets miles away cena returns to his stupid hokey gimmick.

That is how the wrestling business has worked for years. The product hinges on one or two uber faces that are pushed until they are so over with the fans they gain franchise status in and of themselves - Hulkamania, Austin 3:16, Cena Nation et al. This subsequently blocks prospective talent from realising their true potential until the next era comes a long when they need a new mascot/poster boy. I think Mick Foley said it best about Edge - he broke through the glass ceiling. Because there is a glass ceiling - there always has been. Punk has been the one to break through it most recently. Those wrestlers with real, undeniable talent always find away of getting themselves over and into the main event, but apart from the chosen inner circle of corporate golden boys very few wrestlers actually manage it.

Invasion era? Which years are that?

I've always seen it as:

Attitude Era - 1997-2002
Ruthless Aggression Era - 2002-2006
PG Era - 2006-2011
Reality Era - 2001-?

There was I believe an Invasion era but the length of it was really quite short (and utter crap).

Off topic but best era (IMO) was the Ruthless Aggression era

I barely watched that era, had just got together with the Mrs so wrestling became a no go area for a few years!

See the problem with that is I only ever actually liked 2 of those (Angle and Edge).

For me the New Gen era was my favourite.
