poor taste by Wozniacki, mimics Nadal leg cramp collapse in her press conference
I love a laugh, and I actually like Caroline although I try to avoid watching women's tennis because it is like listening to the soundtrack of a badly acted pornographic movie with all that shrieking and howling. Not to mention the lower level of play. But I don't find it funny to publically laugh at a player after a scary health issue like what we witnessed. I like Caroline's humor but she has to reign it in when it comes to making fun of another player's medical issues. I had the same problem with Roddick's criticism of Djoko at the USO a couple of years ago, and I feel the same about this incident. I am not a politically correct person and don't shy from controversial stuff, but this is not very tasteful.

I agree, and sadly it's just part and parcel of the modern game where players openly mock each other.
I recently heard of one player just putting a wig on and mimicing anothers advertising campaign that was strongly based on that players philosophy and beliefs.
It's just not good enough.

BB the sharapova thing is not the same, that was a scripted ad campaign by Head and maria was quoted saying that she thought it was funny it isn't laughing at someone who collapsed in a press conference. You like wumming me up, I know what you are doing so you will have to do better than that to get a rise out of me.

But it WAS funny. Let's face it, it wasn't really a "scary health issue" - it was a bit of cramp that he chose to make scary by making it look like he was having a siezure or heart failure.
If it really had been serious and she made fun of it then I'd agree with you - but it wasn't and I don't. He set himself up for ridicule with that performance

Now I know it was cramp I find the whole episode slightly bizarre. Last time I had cramp, or saw another with it, the person tends to make a noise approximating to "aaarrrghhhhhhh! cramp in my bloody leg!", not do something that has people pushing to switch off the lights and call for medics.
I think someone saw a Priest being rushed in to administer the Last Rites.
I think it in in the spirit of this that Caroline has made her funny parody. I must check up on it. I'm sure Rafa found it funny and took it in good spirits, he's that sort of guy.

Isn't it for Nadal to decide whether he takes offence? The health issue turned out not to be scary, but fairly routine, it just occurred at an unlucky time.
At worst she was well-meaning and clumsy. I am far more exercised about the travesty that the women's porno-game has become than the odd poorly judged joke.

The Nadull is a complete drama queen.
Any normal person would immediately shout 'aaaaargh cramp' and then everyone would ignore them, but not The Nadull. He's too good for that; he had to make an episode of casualty out of it.
Cramp is most definitely not a scary health issue.

Hmm... Not sure I agree with this one socal.
I don't see mocking cramp as offensive. It was funny in my opinion, and light hearted.
How can we as fans complain about players lacking the character of players in days gone by, and then take issue with someone having a bit of fun about someone having cramp? It seems like one minute we moan about players having no sense of humour and being closed off and 'media trained' and then when someone shows a fun side they get criticised for a lack of tatse.
I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have done the same thing over a serious medical condition... But its all about context, and the injury wasn't serious, it was cramp.
Each to their own at the end of the day... But it made me laugh and there's no way I'd be offended in Nadal's position. I wish more players would show their sense of humour to the world...

Just saw it.
Nothing worth talking about, just a bit of fun. She was laughing throughout, didn't mock his unbelievable reaction.

You should have seen some of the comments on youtube, they literally wanted to strangle Caroline based on cramp honestly you would think it was in the same league as the Seles stabbing, don't know why Rafa stayed seated while the cramp happened normal people would get up and try walk/jog it off!

Can't stand the typical boring scripted press conferences. "It's going to be a tough match for sure but I'm going to try my best and if I play my best I have a chance of winning".

Why not get the men to grunt during press conferences?

Honestly, at least she's got a sense of humour and that's more than can be said for most members of the WTA tour.
The fact that she enjoys a laugh and doesn't take her self too seriously is OK by me. Her kangaroo tall story and self mocking at not wining a slam yet show she's got a fun side and long may that continue.

It's not just this nowadays though; the stupid idea that you can't say stuff because it might offend someone else is senseless. It bestows massive power on anyone to inhibit the freedom of others by saying "that offends me". I think the right to be offensive is essential, and I don't care if anyone says anything I might find highly offensive because I would maintain my right to tell them they can stick their opinions up their ****.
If I had my way it would be ok to
* portray any religious figure in whatever way a person felt like because if they don't buy into that superstition that their business. A religious person should be content to know that their God will sort that business out when the person dies.
* say anything racist, sexist or fattist, so long as the sayer is prepared not to have any friends.
* even go further and criticise Rafa for absurd fainting antics or imitate him at a press conferences.
Any other option is thought crime.

Re: poor taste by Wozniacki, mimics Nadal leg cramp collapse in her press conference
Socal i actually don't find it a bad taste to be honest, just a little attempt at humour which should be slept on.
What i find rather more hilarious is the rabid activity of Federer fans yet again on this thread
I wish some were as intelligent but you don't need to be intelligent to be a Federer fan. Normally just old enough. Otherwise, it's clear to see from the press conference where Nadal had the cramp he went to the floor to put his legs in a straight position. I know most people lack basic sport knowledge outside this tennis forum but it really is simple. If you see a footballer feeling severe cramps on the field, almost all the time, he goes down on the field and almost always in a backward action to sit and have his mates keep his legs straight. The first remedy when suffering from cramps in the legs is have the leg in a straight position but why think about that when you can have a gem of an opinion like this from Josiah " don't know why Rafa stayed seated while the cramp happened normal people would get up and try walk/jog it off!"
Watch the video again you will see Nadal went down to the floor with his legs is a straight position. Sitting down would have make him feel more pain.

Nadull needed medical assistance over a cramp wimp of the year award should replace his sportsmanship award, regrettably.

Did it cramp his mouth too S_A? Is that why he made no noise?

I found the whole Nadal cramp thing hilariously bizarre, and I'm glad someone made fun of it! Who does that when they get cramp? Just slide off a chair and under the table without making a noise? Surely you'd at least apologise to the media or something or at least explain what's happening...
I think getting all worked up over Wozniacki doing a two second impression of this strange incident is misguided quite frankly.

For the record, I didn't call for any action or retribution or punishment, just felt the joke was in bad taste. As I stated I like Caroline and her humor, I don't want to censor her. Just thinking that she reached on this one. And judging by the anger she engendered on youtube I am not the only one to think this is in poor taste.

Finding common cause with YouTube numpties isn't any kind of ringing endorsement.

Why the hell was my post edited, someone can call my post garbage and insult me and I respond in kind and tell them that their posts are uninteresting and parroting of other posters and I am the one who gets censored. So let me get this straight censorship only applies when I defend myself against Nore Staat's banal parroting of other posters? Great double standard

BB, she herself backtracked on twitter and said I have a lot of respect for Nadal and hope I didn't hurt his feelings. If you have to backtrack the next day maybe you shouldn't do the joke to begin with or stick to your guns. She is good young lady but she is opening herself up to a great deal of extra scrutiney that was my only point, I didn't find the joke funny and a great deal of other people didn't either.

Fine, you didn't, but she backtracked because of the noise from assorted miscreants and fools.
This kind of comment - "a scary health issue like what we witnessed" - is what is wrong. It was cramp. Cramp is not a scary health issue.
She did nothing, Nadal made himself the subject of a joke.

That's not backtracking at all.
If she were backtracking, surely she'd be showing some sort of remorse or at least apologising.
Basically she's saying that she hopes she didn't hurt his feelings, because if she did, he's a little bit pathetic.
