This year has been brought to you by the letter O and the calf tear injury.

Damn it,he's been unable to shake off these injuries and it's a pity as he's been in pretty decent form.

That actually made me laugh to myself at work.
Should we call up Varley - amazing to think he could be at a World Cup
Re: Flannery out of World Cup
Flannery was always a big risk. Thats a shame for him as he obviously worked pretty hard to get back into shape and he won't get another shot at a WC.
On the plus side Best had his best game in a while on Sunday but with Cronin and Varley as the back up we don't have much option if Best gets injured or loses form.

Could this be the end of Fla in an Ireland jersey? I mean its been a long long time since he was fully fit and played a full match.

Re: Flannery out of World Cup
I think it might be Irish curry. I wonder if he might hang up his boots at the end of the season for Munster?
His body just doesn't seem to be up to it anymore.
Maybe the IRFU rushed him back to quickly for the RWC?

I hope it's not the end of his career, but it looks like it could be a recurring injury
Apparently Varley is the replacement.

Re: Flannery out of World Cup
I always suspected this would happen to one of our "just back from injury" players. Absolutely gutted for the guy and I just hope he can mend with rest.
Obviously he was pushing himself in training to try to get a starting place and this has contributed.

October 2012. Might he be too small for intl Rugby? Time will tell. He would be our 1st player to qualify by residency if he makes it though.

You mean the IRB? We don't make the rules
Back on topic, it sucks for any player to miss out for injury.

Isn't Robbie Diack the first? He's IQ now I think, although he's slipped down the pecking order at Ulster a bit recently so isn't likely to push for an Ireland spot any time soon, especially not with so many good backrowers around.

I think she(he?) meant to be selected. I think there have been several players who've qualified but nowhere near a cap.

Re: Flannery out of World Cup
OK well off the top of my head Ballynahinch based kiwi Andy Ward qualified and played for Ireland through residency in the 90's. Not sure if there were others.
Diack I think is the 1st to qualify though the controversial "project player" programme. On present form I doubt he'll be capped this season but maybe might run out for the Wolfhounds?

I did. Bret Wilkinson has come the closest of the project players, but no cigar yet.HammerofThunor wrote:I think she(he?) meant to be selected. I think there have been several players who've qualified but nowhere near a cap.
I actually agree with you that the IRB make the rules and you cannot criticise people for following them. I don't have any problem personally with the residency rule. But I do find it a little ironic that the nation with the most registered professional players in the world, uses so many imports.
I blame the RFU, not the players and certainly not the fans who I have a lot of time for. (well, most of them )
Very sad for the Fla. 33 next month and 2 years dogged by injury.
