You heard it here first!
On 30 August, Corporalhumblebucket said:
'Middlesex piling up the runs today against Leics, which more or less confirms the battle is for third place.....'
And I replied:
'But our best bet of gaining very unlikely promotion is still open. We need a maximum points win or thereabouts against Northants, then 2 more wins, while Northants then must get no more than a high scoring draw in their last game.
Very unlikely but we're not out of it yet. If - ok, it's a huge if - we do the first bit and wallop Northants, then doubts might creep in to their minds and anything might happen.'
Ok, so Northants did rather better than I suggested in their last game but, hey, who cares now!

Re: You heard it here first!
Simon Very prescient comments!
On the other hand, my worst prediction of the season
At least I made one good one on this site in correctly predicting results of all four T20 quarter finals.
Guildford got an excellent one right in our match against Derby in correctly predicting the bowler and mode of dismissal for Linley (stumped!)

Re: You heard it here first!
I realise this post may read a bit smug but my point was you should always keep the faith. It was an incredible final week and an incredible final month of the season. The capitulation in both innings against Kent mid-August now seems a million years ago. I thought we had maybe a one in a hundred chance of going up in the way I suggested we might, at Northants' rather than Middlesex's expense.
ChrisfromStroud - 3, 7, 28, 29, 33 and 40. Good luck.

Re: You heard it here first!
OK so this has nothing to do with cricket at all but bare with me! My wife has started an e-petition to try and campaign for 24 hour care for the dying as at the moment depending on where you live, it may not be available. It only takes a minute to sign so if anyone here could do it it would be a big help and pass it on to others we would be very grateful.

Carrot - happy to support this cause. You would probably get a wider audience and bigger take up if you put this as a new topic in the General Discussion part of the forum. Best wishes to you and Mrs C.

All the best Gooch. I'm hoping there will be a good few occasions during the close season for Surrey posters to catch up on odd snippets of Surrey news as well as keep an eye on other cricket developments.
Not to mention the DIY limerick thread....
I will shortly be on extended patrol and so out of reach for a couple of weeks....

Re: You heard it here first!
All the best from me too, Goochie.
I was planning to hang around until the Surrey awards are announced (soon, I would guess) and then just make the odd cameo appearance before April for the sort of items mentioned by the Corporal.
Corporal - enjoy the extended patrol and don't forget to pack your Owzat for those dark evenings!

Re: You heard it here first!
Murali Kartik is the one Surrey are after and are likely to secure him on a two year deal.
Ollie Rayner expected to complete his move to Middlesex this week.

Hi Lover - how are you? Where have you been?
I've actually heard this as well about Kartik but I'll give you the medal for first posting ! Can't say I'm too impressed - I get the impression he's past his best and not a patch on the Dodger (Pragyan Ojah). Kartik was pretty dreadful against us in the CB40 final.
Rayner's move to the Middle should be good for you and him.

Not sure why Rayner is leaving the south coast tbh, although I guess he's not a patch on Monty or Yards.
Middlesex forming a good young team now tho

Re: You heard it here first!
Gregers - Being well behind Monty in the pecking order, Rayner needs to move to get a game.
Leg spinner Max Beer - thought of very highly two seasons ago before Monty's arrival - will almost certainly need to do the same ....

Re: You heard it here first!
Max Beer never really progressed tho, even when Monty wasn't playing in one day cricket for us he never shone. Unfortunately really.
Re: You heard it here first!
Indeed Will Beer, not Max Beer. Shows how great he was the last time I saw him play.
Problem with him was he could be great for an over or two but couldn't keep it tight for 4 in t20

Mea culpa. I morphed Will Beer and Max Waller into one legspinner.

Re: You heard it here first!
Ollie's opportunities at Sussex were limited and he needed to move on
Whilst there last season he created an excellent impression, and given the county's lack of an experienced spinner it was the natural move.
One wonders how another ex-Sussex man Tom Smith will now see his future at Middlesex.
I can actually see Monty forcing himself back into The International set-up next season alongside Swanny, which would be slightly ironic.
As far as leggies are concerned they are a breed apart, and many who show ability at a young age tend to lose it as they get older.
England captains such as Cowdrey,Atherton and Hussain are examples of this and there have been others.

Jimbo - do you know what the position is with Imran Tahir? He's someone I think might do a job at the Oval ....

if they need a left arm spinner, what about someone like steve o'keefe, as an overseas signing..

I doubt it, because Burns is good prospect who can bat as well as keep - (and even bowl to some extent )cricketfan90 wrote:do u think surrey will look for a back up keeper as well?

Spot on, Corporal.
I don't know Wilson's contract position. If it's up now, he must be sweating on a new one ....
