Plan B
Hi all,
What are the best examples of fighters that have been able to adopt a plan B during a fight and turn around a fight they were initially losing/ or a fight that was initially very close?
This is not something that I've seen too much of, and probably something that only the very best fighters are able to do.

Re: Plan B
Sugar Ray Leonard v Hearns 1 ..Ray was being outboxed and needed the knockout. Found it as well
Very difficult to do and as you sat the sign of a very talented fighter

Re: Plan B
As an unorthadox example I would say Tyson against Tucker. Tson was not getting anywhere trying to blast Tucker out, but settled to a composed style behind the jab and took the fight.

Re: Plan B
Holes v Witherspoon - Larry getting outboxed so decided to start fighting instead and got the win.
Marquez v Pacquiao 1 - Marquez came to fight but found himself on the seat of his pants 3 times in rd1, so adopted a counterpunching gameplan and comprehensively outboxed manny for the next 11 rounds only to be robbed with a draw.

It's not all about Power Punches
Didn't realise that 23% was better than 29%

Re: Plan B
Plus your only saying that because Pacquiao has such an atrocious jab you want to wash over it

Strange Pacquiao made Marquez miss more with his power punches and Pacquiao was the most accurate power puncher for those next 11 rounds.
Not really a change in tactics now was it? Do you really think Marquez came out to brawl, have you seen the first round?
Love the way D4 magically appears everytime someone says something slightly negative about manny. He must have a sixth sense for it!
Yeah I think JMM changed tactics, he stood off manny more the rest of the fight than I think was his intention in the first round. Obviously it helped that he was able to time manny easier the longer the fight went. Don't care what you say D4, and i know you will say otherwise because you would defend mannys honour with your dying breath and against all logic and reason, but Marquez won that fight over the 12 rounds.

Re: Plan B
D4thincarnation: If the judge would not have made a mistake by calling the first round a 10-7 round rather than a 10-6 Pacquiao would have won that fight fair and square.
--------
Fair and square? You mean it wouldve been a bigger robbery than calling it a draw.
Marquez adapted, fought more cautiously. Yes he got caught by some shots, but he never went down again when it looked in the 1st like he was gonna get blown away.

Re: Plan B
SBS, why are you even bothering, you know its a pointless task trying to make him see any perspective that goes against Pacquiao

Re: Plan B
Pryor v Arguello 1
Pryor came rushing out at him in the first and found that big old right hand in his face, then he changed to a boxing moving style. Still swinging like Pryor but also confusing Arguello with some tricky movement.

He won the fight by about 114-111.
But you are being unfair to the original poster the thread is meant to be about a Plan B, not about the Pacquiao vs Marquez fight.
You know as well as I know Marquez never had to change his plan.
If you want to talk about Marquez vs Pacquiao make a thread about.
Coming from the guy with a known history for twisting virtually every subject onto mayweather and/or pacquiao, that's a bit rich.
You didn't get voted as a moderator D4, so don't try and act like one.
Pacquiao did not win that fight 114-111, you are watching it with manny pyjamas on. I suppose he won the Torrecampo fight in your opinion too, and morales 1.
I'm out of here.

Rocky Balboa vs Clubber Lang II:
Rocky gettin the rudey poo punched out of him, and deciding to let Lang continue to punch him in the face until he tired himself out, all whilst shouting "you ain't so bad"

Then when that didn't work he went to plan C and used the spiked water bottle
Plan D was taking the padding out of Pryor's gloves!

Brilliant!
To be fair though - this was Rockys A plan for all of his fights. That along with making his opponent mad by allowing him to punch him!
One that did spring to mind but didnt work was cheating to a no contest or disqualification. The two that spring to mind were Dan Cherrie vs Eubank (this is from memory so I may be wrong) where he completely over reacted to a headbutt that wouldnt have hurt my granny, in the hope that Eubank would be docked points and/or discqualified.
The other one was Hopkins vs Calzaghe and the low blow that never was. Two words Bernard - Fail. oh dear thats one word....Fail Loser...thats better.,
Re: Plan B
Robinson v Turpin 2 might qualify.Ray needed the knockout because of the cut eye so went for it
Not that Robinson needed any encouragement really for a good old fashioned tear up .Thinking about it he probably had a plan C through to Z !
