Hands of Stone
Don't know if this has already been mentioned but I came across this and thought I should share it.

It's about time really. What do you think of the actors? Do you expect it to be any good?

Re: Hands of Stone
Making a film on Duran are they? Hopefully they make it a good one, his story certainly warrants it.
Re: Hands of Stone
Why have they cast some guy who looks like a kiddy fiddling woofter as Duran?

Re: Hands of Stone
Has had a colorful life and looks like an all star cast so could be good.
With the recent release of The Fighter and now this it seems boxig movies are in vogue. Now all we need is a boxing movie with zombies in and we're have the two most popular current film types in one big pot!!
Wish they'd make a film about some of the real old timers like Ketchel or Greb for example. That would be a rollercoaster 90 minutes!!

I hate boxing films about real life characters..they are either overly-biased to the subject and cheesy or completely inaccurate a la Braddock...
Better to keep your heroes as you want them in your memory rather than let them be sullied and your memories be tainted...
I'll let this film roll by I think..

Nice one. Hopefully they do a decent job theres a good story for them there anyway. Although look what they did with the Ali movie.. Give your man a beard and a haircut and he'll do fine..

As an aside has anyone noticed of all the boxing films that are made how few of them are about black boxers, Fighter was about Mickey Ward, this is Duran, Someone up there likes me was Graziano, Raging Bull La Motta and so on, does seem odd with how many truly terrific black fighters there were that but for a couple of exceptions they do seem under represented in the genre.

Great shame that George Murcell was born in the wrong era. He would have been perfect for the Duran role :

Re: Hands of Stone
Truss I realise there have obviously been films made but in recent years the god awful Ali film aside the big budget films have been pretty thin on the ground for black fighters, have to think there are a good number of black fighters that would make a damned sight better topic than Mickey Ward vs Shea Neary.

Re: Hands of Stone
Well that is the kind of point I was making, Mickey Ward gets two top line Hollywood stars, Leonard and Duran get some geezer on his holiday from a soap opera. Doesn't exactly smack as fair because for me I know who I think more warrants the big Hollywood treatment.

Not really Truss do genuinely think that given how successful they have been black fighters are criminally underlooked when Hollywood looks for subjects for boxing movies. You disagree, so be it can live with that

It doesn't matter how big they are, Truss. You shouldn't let them make you rub oil all over them.

Truss will be bowing before images of true Brit, Lennox Lewis and eulogising on the merits of Nigel Benn before we know it.

Out of all them the only big productions were Ali and The Hurricane. Ali being the biggest sportsman ever was always gonna have a big movie (even though they made a horlicks of it) and I don't think it was the boxing side they were interested in when making The Hurricane. Although I don't think theres any agenda with the film makers as to why there seems to be less blockbusters made about black fighters. There aren't really a huge proportion of films made about boxing anyways,

And in fairness in the Hurricane, boxing was just the back-drop, a scene setter, the movie really focused on his incarceration and instituional racism.
