Week Five Fantasy Help
I'll kick of this weeks fantasy help thread.
Got Antonio Gates in a team and have been playing Fred Davis but he is on a bye. Looking to replace him one-for-one via waivers.
My three options are Gresham, Olsen and Pettigrew, all of which a few weeks before their byes so hopefully Gates will be back. In what order would people rank them (i'm last in waivers as i'm 4-0 in this league).
Same League. I have L McCoy, R Matthews, B Wells, D Thomas and F Gore as my backs (perhaps why i'm 4-0!).
I'm looking to trade one, probably for a wide receiver. The guy with Vincent Jackson drafted Jamaal Charles and is in need of a back so I was looking to make a deal. Would Gore and Nate Burleson be an agreeable (slightly unfair) trade or not?

A good way of knowing if a trade is fair is if it was the other way round would you accept it? i
As for Gore and Pettigrew seems a fair trade but you couldswap Pettigrew for any other TE and still wpould be fair

If I was him (given his mess at running back) I might give the trade a shot... but i'm not much of a trader and things always have to be slightly biased my way or I just wont accept...

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
I'm totally with you on this dave. I always think that I have to be the clear winner in a trade for me to accept. The only trade I've done so far this year is to swap Cedric Benson (and his impending suspension) for Rob Gronkowski (given that I was very poor at TE).
As for the Gore/Pettigrew - Jackson trade, bear in mind that he is playing with the kind of injury that is difficult to fully shake and his performance so far might mean that your trader might be trying to sell high. If I were you I would look at other options although the Charles factor does make this one seem do-able.

TE Olsen
RB Keep McCoy , Mathews & Gore [will have a good few weeks]
Trade Wells & Burleson / Thomas
Both sides have to think they have got a reasonable deal for it to be fair
Having said that I never veto unless I think a trade is unfair to the league

VJAX is worth more than Thomas and Wells VJAX is a top 5 receiver remember the rule of thumb if someone offered you Wells and Thomas for VJAX would you really take it?

I sort of agree with you that Vjax is an elite player & Thomas / Wells are just good playersLeedscowboys wrote:Forward Pass wrote:TE Olsen

but fantasy wise the points are Vjax 55 Thomas 27 Wells 63
Given that he has problems at RB he might just take the offer
I do agree with your rule of thumb ,any deal should benefit both parties

Here's a couple for you wise owls...
James Starks (@ATL), Ryan Grant (@ATL) and Mark Ingram (@CAR) - Need 2 from 3.
AJ Green (@JAC), Plaxico Burress (@NE) and James Jones (@ATL) - Need 2 from 3.

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
If you saw how many yards Carolina gave up to Forte you would consider Ingram a good starter (not great because Sproles seems to take up too many carries). However in this situation there is no way I would start both Packers running backs given that they are a pass first team.
If he is fit I would side with Grant out of the two if i'm honest to pair with Ingram, but its close.
Reciever wise I'd take AJ and Plax. Jones is too much of a risk i.e. he will either go for nothing or say 10 yards, or he will pick up 60/70 and a score (the less likely option).
Obviously Atlanta Green Bay could turn into a shootout but you'd probably put your money on the passes going to Jennings, Finley, Nelson, Driver, Jones, Cobb in that order... On the other hand AJ has shown himself to be pretty tidy and the Jags hardly have a shutdown defence. Plax could be a bit hit and miss, but would be higher up the chain of "go to" receivers on the Jets and that game could see plenty of points

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
how about this one for my flex position;
Preston Parker versus the 49ers (400+passing yards against last week), or
Stevan Ridley versus the Jets (breakout week last week, and won me my matchup)

Woodhead may be back for the Pats but Parker is starting in the slot for the Bucs. He seems to be Freeman's 3rd down target.

Yeah, i had Charles a really needed a RB. No point in having two TE's (even though Gates is out) and not enough RB's. I also have Bensons backup so the suspension doesnt worry me as much. (Plus I hate the Patriots)

On 3rd and long yeah Parker is. On 3rd and short it's going to Earnest Graham.

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
My current WR's Santonio Holmes, Mike Williams (Bucs), Dez Bryant, Devery Henderson. Should I drop any of them to pick up either/both of these: Eric Decker or Jordy Nelson.

don't know much about some of these, but Rodgers does seem to like Nelson, edging towards no.2 WR target after jennings

I'd probably swap Henderson for Nelson.
I need 2 from these 3:
Jordy Nelson (@Atlanta), Nate Washington (@Pittsburgh) and Pierre Garcon (v Kansas City)

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
Wadey - having just gained my first fantasy win I now feel qualified to enter this discussion, though I'm odds on for a losing season so make what you will of this:
Steelers have problems but their secondary isn't one of them, I'd therfore be inclined to bench Washington and play Nelson and Garcon.
Rodgers could connect for 450 yards and 7 TDs if he fancies it so I think you have to play Nelson, without Berry and Flowers carrying an injury we're banged up at secondary but not conceding huge yards but even so I think Garcon would get a start on my team

Cheers Grizzly, that's what I was thinking of going with. It seems as though Painter is targetting Garcon more than Collins did and Nelson could get anything playing on that offence.
It was me you got your first win against! I'm suprisingly 2-2 in my first ever season of fantasy NFL!

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
I've just spotted that Garcon is available too, so I'm actually considering dropping Henderson, Holmes and Williams for Nelson, Decker and Garcon.
I have to cut one of these four tight ends: Brandon Pettigrew, Benjamin Watson, Jared Cook, Antonio Gates. I picked Gates up as we have two IR spots but they can only be taken by players who are on IR, PUP or listed as out, and now as he's questionable my roster isn't allowed.

Agree with Devery Henderson... but no way on the other two.
I'd probably cut one Watson or Cook. No way i'm dropping Gates as he is too much of a weapon regardless of how little he plays

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
Holmes and Williams have been playing terribly, Garcon outscored their season totals in one game and he had Painter throwing the ball. Decker's and Nelson's average points a game is over double both of Holmes and Williams average points a game. Which of Decker or Nelson would you add for Henderson?
My issue is I have to drop one of the TE's but we start 2 a week and Watson is on his bye week, but Gates and Cook both have a bye next week. So I would have to drop someone anyway next week to be able to start 2 TE's. I'm considering dropping Gates as he's the least likely to play can always pick him up later for someone else.

Re: Week Five Fantasy Help
Depends on your view of the Chargers secondary. If you think they will stomp on the Bronco's, then I'd go with Nelson as the Eagles secondary hasn't gelled yet. If you think they are gelling this week, go with Decker. Me, I'd go with Nelson, as the Bills have a spread the ball around approach, so he's likely to get some catches.

I'd look at the waiver wire - its just as if the Jets and Steelers were on bye week!
At a pinch I'd go with Ben. Wish I was playing you this week.

Some bye week problems here
Team 1: Rice and Hightower on bye and Andre Johnson injured - Starting Ingram and Best at RB. Mike Williams (Buccs) at WR, need a WR and flex from Manningham, Michael Bush, Moore, Deangelo, Floyd - thinking Floyd and one other
Team 2: By far my strongest team - Need a flex from Starks, Jordy/David Nelson, Sproles, Decker, Ridley - leaning towards Sproles
Team 3: Flex from Knox, Ridley, Decker

I would say McGahee, as the Steelers haven't really done anything on offense, maybe you could make a case for Redman if you know Mendenhall won't be active.
