should you line your ball up?
should you line your ball up?
First topic message reminder :
i always have done: mark, a quick clean, then line up the logo on the ball with the target line.
but is it against the spirit of the game? you don't get to mark and line up your ball for any other shot - it almost feels a little like cheating.
it can also slow up play: when you have someone meticulously lining their ball up for every putt, even a 18 inch tap in.

I have definitely heard at least my dad use it, but to be fair he is a little old school.

shotrock - interesting link, at least the first 3 pages were - i couldn't bring myself to wade through all 1559 responses...!
i think its a slightly grey area. as it is within the rules to do so and it clearly makes it easier to hole putts i'll be taking advantage for the time being - but for me there is a question mark against it despite the 'yes' vote majority. you aren't allowed any other alignment aid during the stroke. for me, using an alignment aid prior to the stroke is a different and acceptable concept - i.e. lining yourself up to a point in the distance, or a blade of grass 12 inches infront of the ball (not in favour of caddies lining players up). having a line marked on the ball which is lined up with the target is using an alignment aid during the stroke, and it seems at the very least questionable to whether this ought to be acceptable.

Ban -
You would have to be a glutton for punishment or have a severe case of insomnia to read the entire thread!
Now that you can't buy a ProV1 without the "cheater" line, I'm pretty sure the USGA and R&A are just going to let this slide into obscurity. To each their own on this I guess ... but I do believe it slows down play somewhat.

Yeah. But you can see some people thinking "Wow! I'll have some of that."ban_bam wrote:Are Titleist extracting les urino?!! Item 5 on their 'Multi Component Technology' speil for the ProV1x:

can't believe they're protecting it with a trademark. its not as if anyone else would want such a shi.tea codename for a logo.

Re: should you line your ball up?
Not sure sticking ™ on it actually makes a blind bit of difference; anyone can do that. A registered trademark (the one with the little 'R' in a circle) is another matter...although don't quote me on this as it could be complete bollards.
