Could you be an impartial referee????
Referees do get a lot of stick in all sports but in Boxing I do have sympathy!!!
Can't Imagine I'd have been lenient on a Honeyghan or a Tyson years ago.....With all the louts at the Mayweather-Hatton weigh in I can understand Cortez being harsh on Hatton to a certain extent...Referees do need good links to Promoters to get work...
Referees are human beings and we all have our likes and dislikes...
In all honesty could you be an impartial referee???

Gonna compare this with cricket and the occasional umpiring i've had to do for the juniors tournaments/games etc.
Yup, probably because being biased isn't in my blood as such. Was brought up to be fair to both sides and to basically not cheat yourself as you're not only cheating yourself but a team who will leave with a bitter aftergame feeling of how you were biased to the other guys.
For me it's all pretty clear cut, if a guy isn't out as i think it's too marginal then i won't give him.. whilst telling the bowler it was probably missing leg etc. Same would apply if i were to ref a boxing match, if i thought it was low i'd warn etc, regardless of if i had any affinity towards that boxer.
The idea of cheating/being biased doesn't sit overly well with me, so reckon i'd be ok being honest

Just can't see you as an umpire Coxy.....
Surely if one team is thrashing another..you'd be a bit more helpful to the other with your decision making..

I've given out the "superstar" kids before, i could've turned the appeals down but when it's knocking out most of middle 'n leg i find it hard to not give them their marching orders. I've seen coaches/senior players almost cause riots before with some of their "decisions".
Cheating an inferior team out of victory again doesn't sit right. Neither does turning down appeals against the kids who carry the team, they won't get any better from it as a result of being "helped"
Boxing is obviously far more high paced, but i've ref'd footie and rugby before and given some decisions against my own team. Think the best was when the ball crossed the line from a header, i flagged for it that it had gone over and they all went mental asking why i'd given it.... didn't have much of a comeback when i said "it crossed the line". Would be fun doing a boxing fight, even if i were given DLH's comeback fight i'd still wanna be neutral for fear of being branded a biased/she-ite/rubbish/corrupt ref etc
