Playing Advice.
Simple really a thread for everyone to share advice with others who may be looking to the play the game, hopefully those members who have spent time playing or coaching American Football will be happy to share a little bit of their knowledge with the rest of us. I’ve been using the @606v2AF twitter account over the past week to try and get some advice from current/former NFL players, obviously they can’t give amazing and detailed advice as they get just 131 characters, but I still believe that their advice can be helpful.
Defense
Defense
- Spoiler:
- Defensive Tackle
Jeff Owens: best advice I can give is use your hands
Corey Peters: work on your hands. Work on your feet. Lift weights and eat a lot
Defensive End
Brian Robison: work on you explosion out of your stance
Cornerback
Rod Issac: you need lots of confidence to play cb you also gotta have amnesia things aren't gonna go good all the time forget em and move on
Linebacker
Brendon Ayanbadejo: learn how to read offensive line n running backs
Quentin Groves: find a LB and model your game after his!!
Safety
Larry Asante: patience is key when playin safety and u must control your eyes
Chris Harris: really learn and understand the position and defense. This game is more mental than people give credit
- Spoiler:
- Offensive Guard
Offensive Tackle
William Beatty: I would say make sure you know how to work well as a group & you are willing to protect your QB b/c his safety rests with the OLine
James Lee: Research some of the great OLinemen that has played or still playing. Watch them and learn. (He later said Walter Jones and Orlando Pace are some of the greats)
George Foster: You have to love it first. Not many accolades involved. Toughness a must. U hit EVERY play, against strongest guys on field. Smarts.
Centre
Quarterback
Tight End
Julius Thomas: I would say its a tough position cuz you do a lot of things and have to know a lot. But the dif assingments makes it fun
Running back
Corey McIntyre: tell him to do alot of squats and shrugs
Wide Receiver
Austin Pettis: do all the little things, never let anyone out work you, make sure there is no question u prepared and outworked opponent

Re: Playing Advice.
Life in the trenches: A guide to playing on the line
Playing on the offensive and defensive lines seems like a very thankless task. You’re not going to make the big play that wins a game very often and can go years without so much as touching the ball.
I compare it to playing front/second row in rugby union; doing all the grunt work so the little skinny guys can get the glory. It takes a certain selfless attitude to want to play on the lines. But it’s very, VERY fun.
I’ve played 4 seasons of football between university and senior level. I’ve started at Left Tackle, Left Guard, Right Tackle, Tight End and Defensive Tackle, sometimes playing both offense and defense during the same game, something no professional ever does. So here are the basics to each side of the ball, things that coaches have drilled into me over and over and over again so that they are instinctive now.
