Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
Anyone got the album yet and listened it through? What do you reckon?
I personally love it, it's really the best I've heard this year and the best collection of songs from any Gallagher(s) project since What's The Story. If I Had a Gun currently holds the title of favourite song....

The tracks I've heard played on Radio 2 (it was their Album of the Week last week) - and it sounds good. Really like the new single from it. I always thought his voice was more melodic than that of Liam.

Big fan of What a life. Might listen to some more to see if I can get into his stuff. I struggle to like new age stuff as I'm still stuck in the 70s/80s/90s.

Re: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
I'm really interested to hear feedback on this album. I'm popping down to the record store on Monday to pick up "National Treasures" - The Manic Street Preachers singles collection (even though I own all their albums already - I'm too lazy to make my own singles collection on iTunes and burn it to CD for the car) - and I may well walk out with this too. I've always been a fan of Noel Gallagher, and just wish he'd cut his ties to his neandrothol brother and done this earlier.

It really is a very good album Demon. To compare it to an Oasis album it's more Don't Believe the Truth and Dig Out Your Soul in sound than any earlier stuff. It's good to hear an album of Noel singing and writing the songs, because it showed on the later Oasis albums that the others contributions weren't living up to his.
It's had positive reviews from the music press too, so you can have a look at their reviews online if you were so inclined.

Re: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
Not a bad song on the album. Opening song "Everybody's on the Run" is a brilliant opener, with a great string section in it. Probably easier to name what I find are the weaker songs. Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks and AKA...Broken Arrow don't really do it for me. Otherwise it's a tremendous album from Noel.
Worth trying to get his b-sides that he's released too if you can. Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me reminds me of Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky and Alone on the Rope is another one which isn't his usual style but very good all the same.
Off to see him in Edinburgh next Thursday and really looking forward to it although I'd prefer it if he had his string quartet with him to play the sections on the songs but it's still going to be a great night.
Far better than anything Beady Eye have managed which says it all really.

Considering how I hated everything Oasis ever released after Definitely Maybe, I am surprised to find myself quite liking this effort.

I'm wondering if he'll be support for Stone Roses at the comeback gigs next summer.

Bought this yesterday and absolutely love it. A fantastic album - he should have cut away the fat and done this 10 years ago. As somone said above, not a bad track on the album from one of the finest songwriters in the UK today.
