First topic message reminder :

I always wondered why Frank Bruno did not take a couple of gimmies before he fought Tyson. After beating Mcall Bruno realised his dream of becoming heavyweight champion but I wonder you know, if at that stage of his career, Bruno already knew he was finished. Bruno had a long and hard career before that fight with Oliver Mccall and decided to face Mike Tyson, recently released from prison, instead of milking his reign as champ.Did Bruno and his team have other options or was it purely for the money that they went for a re-match with Tyson? Did they believe that they Tyson was rusty and that it was the best opportunity to face him? Why not a potential big money fight with Lewis? Or why not take on some fringe contender?

Can't speak for them all, but I reckon you're wasting your time trying to figure it out in McCall's case, Alex! The man is just about as 'gone' in the head as it gets.

true the mccall lewis fight is about one of the oddest things youre ever going to see. think he was just a bit special to be honest.

i was watching the leon williams rob norton fight which was not a good advertisement for boxing where all williams needed to do look lively and throw something but chose not to until the last couple of rounds even though he still got the decision which was a bit of a robbery. not a word i use often either.

In reply to Waingro raving on about how good Lewis was,he was nothing out of the ordinary apart from his size until Manny Stewart took him under his wing after the McCall fight. He improved tremendously after that and became one of the best around at the time, though he did have some hard nights with the likes of Mercer. I think he would have beaten Tyson at any stage of his career, the same goes for Bowe.

Hard to say a guy that was always slow and relied on his power...was washed up or not....

Always fought the same....But fairplay always caused trouble for everybody apart from in Tyson 2...where he'd lost before the first bell...mentally.
