What are your conventions for skins handicaps? Regular group are 6-9 and we just play off scratch, but suggesting that to a 12 was met with tears and foot stamping!! Are we being unreasonable, in which case we will probably just carry on, or unfair which would cause us to change.

Hmm interesting one. My regular group consists of Scr up to 6 (me) and we always play off scratch, as far as I'm concerned it's the best way to improve.
If you do decide to give shots then I'd probably go for 3/4 diff from the low man but guess you would need to give them to everyone, not just the 12 hcp'er?

It is a bit harsh I think... He's entitled to shots on 2/3 of the course and you're asking him to give them up and then play for cash as well...

that said I much prefer to play off stick end when possible.

It's a form of matchplay, really, so I'd say 3/4 from lowest seems right. I can see how it'd work off scratch with a close range of handicaps (d4s you're being pretty brave if you ask me, but I guess 0-6 is perhaps less variable than 6-9, and I guess it also depends how much the skins are each!)

SJ

it's amazing how giving away 6 shots focuses the mind! Shocked

Ta - we've always worked it on the basis that one player has to beat 2 or 3 others and that makes it tighter than 4BBB, so 3/4 never seemed right? I guess some other fraction might help, but interesting that there is no norm for what is becoming a more common form of play.
Interestingly, just in from a game where one of the lads, off 10 just up from 9, scooped 6skins in one go with a birdie having not been close on any other hole. Did quite a lot to convince us that scratch for this form of the game is not a bad option.
