It was a slip ref, honest...
Moment of the night for me during Saturday's Prizefighter was when Mongolian Warrior Choi banjoed Lee Glover with a huge overhand right to the temple which lifted the 'Tipton Slasher' clean off his feet and left him face down on the canvas. To his credit, Glover was quickly up and standing, but it was what happened next that I found incredible. Glover shook his head and waved his glove at the referee, clearly trying to pass off what had just happened as a slip. Luckily the referee wasn't daft, and ruled it a knock-down, another of which followed shortly afterwards before Glover decided that he'd had enough and quit in his corner.
Are there any other examples of downed fighters trying to con the referee in this way?
Have any ever succeeded?

Did something like that not happen when Khan fought Limmond?
Khan got knocked down and bounced up saying he slipped but the ref bought it on this occasion.

haye wlad klit?
haye going over on purpose which got wlad into trouble and he lost a point.
was clearly a haye-booth tactic to counter wlad leaning on him. ended up backfiring on him however with the knockdown near the end.

Sort of the opposite but Holmes slipped against Shavers and it was called a knockdown. He got straight up.

Re: It was a slip ref, honest...
If I remember correctly, there were a couple of contentious knockdowns in the two Tyson-Ruddock fights, with the (probably) premature stoppage in the first one, too. Personally, I'm not sure what Ruddock was complaining about for the knockdown, but there you go.
Prince Naz against Augie Sanchez was another one, and I'm sure most know the story of Ali-Wepner, with Wepner apparently treading on Ali's foot to help get the 'knockdown' which has passed in to folklore.
The second 'knock down' in Pacquiao-Mosley was as bad a refereeing call as you could wish to see, to be honest....

Again, it's another example of the reverse happening, but I remember Benn taking a tumble against Malinga (the fight where he lost his world title) in the final round. Pretty dubious knockdown but the referee called it. The odd thing is that, had the knockdown not been given and Benn fought a decent last round, he may have held on to this title via a draw, as somehow one judge managed to have him ahead, and another level at that stage (not sure what fight those two judges were watching, Benn was well beaten that night).

No, I'm talking about Hatton's post fight interview when he said he was doing OK until he slipped.
It was a joke, a poor one I admit but a joke nevertheless

Willie Pep was probably as poor a referee as he was marvellous as a fighter.
As third man in the first Harada v Famechon encounter in Australia Pep, among other things, contrived to rule a legitimate knockdown ( scored by Harada, if memory serves, ) a slip and a slip, ( suffered by Harada, ) a knockdown.

Good shout, Windy. Still amazes me how incompetant Pep was in that bout. And it amazes me even more that he managed to score it a draw at first, before then (seemingly) caving in to the pro-Famechon crowd in Sydney and awarding him the victory. Can't take anything away from Famechon in terms of his performance second time out, but I'll always believe that Harada was incredibly unlucky not to have taken a third world title that night.

I recall a wobbly legged Chris Byrd pleading with the referee that he slipped after getting totally poleaxed by Ike Ibeabuchi.
He was able to continue but was stopped shortly afterwards.

Re: It was a slip ref, honest...
When Briggs fought Lewis he threw a punch which missed but was so knackered he fell over and the ref waved the fight off.
Toe to toe stuff but Lewis showed he could take a good shot when Briggs nearly took his head off early in the fight. By the 5th round Briggs had punched himself out.

I remember that, he wa frothing at the mouth and spit trailing down onto the ring and he was protesting the knockdown.

Not sure how this guy can remonstrate with the ref. Gets all physical as well.
