Yes, Scott, I started to watch that, but turned it off after two minutes, those morons would have got me too wound up.
Louis was silly to let that chimp near him.....a tame, seemingly friendly, chimp can turn violent in an instant and literally rip your face off.
I'd have hated anything like that to happen to Louis....I usually watch all of his programmes but couldn't watch this one.

Why am I not bowled over with surprise..? I quite like watching Louis Theroux. How he's not been shot yet is beyond me. I liked the one where he hung out with the black militants, and there was another one, where he was with some gangsta rappers which was quite good.Scottrf wrote:Yeah.BALTIMORA wrote:Was he in America, by any chance?Scottrf wrote:I think this Louis Theroux doc about exotic animals is more upsetting, half these people are morons.

Brilliant, had only checked a few weeks back to see if he had anything new out, the hunting safari one is really good if anyone hasn't seen it.

Re: Frozen Planet
As a friend of mine once said: "never have a pet you can't kick the s*** out of". I'm of the same opinion as you; I think they make such a big issue out of their 'freedoms' that they find they kinda cut off their nose to spite their face at times. Gun crime isn't any huge mystery. 300 million people and about the same number of guns means that sooner or later, due to the laws of probability one of those guns will find itself in the hands of some unhinged lunatic wanting to kill people. Is it any coincidence that school shootings are practically a national pastime there?Scottrf wrote:It's because of the stupid freedom ideal American's have, they think it's their right to own stupid animals, automatic weapons.

Louis Theroux is awesome, he always asks the right questions, which would usually provoke a reaction but he does it in such a manner that he manages to get away with it. Cool guy.

The Terre-Blanche one was brilliant, the best ever in my opinion. Genuinely scary man, for all the wrong reasons. I like Theroux, but was disappointed in his first effort with those religious nutters who picket the soldiers funerals (can't remember their name). Keith Allen got more out of them by being obnoxious, Louis was a bit too soft in that one.

Re: Frozen Planet
Tina have read interviews with Theroux where he says his approach is not to give them an easy ride or play faux naive, his style is based on most of the people such as the Westboro baptist church and the white supremacists views are so repugnant you make them look ridiculous simply by giving them a forum to air their views sort of a give em enough rope approach.
His book is quite interesting, he catches up with a lot of the people who featured in weird weekends, including the white supremacists in the UK, is strange because he loses his laptop and one of the white supremacists goes out of his way to help him find it, odd that someone with such unpleasant views would extend him such kindness.

Re: Frozen Planet
The Terre-Blanche episode had a definite tangible air of 'this could go horribly wrong', possibly more so than any of the gang/gangsta rapper/American religious nutters episodes. I thought the one where he was with the black militant headcases was good; they were basically telling him that every famous white person in history had really been black. Henry VIII? Black. Shakespeare? Black.
Also, Tino; the religious nutters are the Westboro Baptist Church I think, run by the Phelps family.

I thought that was fantastic, very interesting and such a strange family it was mind boggling...
The second time around I think 6 years later or something was also very interesting, they appeared to want to hide themselves and I'm not even sure they genuinely believed it anymore... So odd it was a tad creepy how a persons mind can be warped so much.

I appreciate what you're saying, and generally I like his style, and it is successful but Allen exposed one of them for having some kid out of wed-lock or something along those lines and got a really great reaction from them. Louis didn't even mention it when he first visited them.
Balti, The Terre-Blanche one did have a sinister feel to it. There was a moment when Theroux was in some tent with him and I genuinely thought he was going to get hurt. Terre-Blanche just had this cold, dispassionate, evil look on his face. The kind of look that ONETWO wears when he is out on a "hit".

Speaking of which, did they charge someone with Terre-Blanche's killing? I know that it's evident that nothing bad has happened because if it had we'd not be seeing the programme, but I agree that that particular episode was unsettling, most definitely.Mind the windows Tino. wrote:rowley wrote:Tina have read interviews with Theroux where he says his approach is not to give them an easy ride or play faux naive, his style is based on most of the people such as the Westboro baptist church and the white supremacists views are so repugnant you make them look ridiculous simply by giving them a forum to air their views sort of a give em enough rope approach.

Re: Frozen Planet
It's a fine line Tina, personally I tend to agree that it would be nice to see Theroux give some of them more of a kicking because he is certainly bright enough to do it but you sometimes can make yourself look a clown if you go too far, remember watching the guy on the BBC going mental at the Scientologists, he looked a bigger idiot than they did.
In his book he says the other thing people overlook is whilst a lot of the people who he interviews obviously hold horrible views they also take him into their homes, feed him let him interact with their families and sleep in their houses, he has to get the balance between challenging their views and not throwing this kindness back in their faces.

I am going to stick that on the Christmas list then, sounds a decent book. Unless someone wants to buy it for my birthday, which just so happens to be Saturday?

It's not Louis Theroux, but I found this documentary to be pretty chilling:
My Brother, the Islamist
And, to keep it vaguely on-topic for the boxing board, guess which extremist oik turned up in a couple of scenes..?

What's the documentary in question? I can't be bothered to scroll up. Am on a tiny window at work as the orifice, sorry office, is full today.
And i'm calmness personified... unflappable etc. Am sure i'll be fine.
