606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
An idea I just had:
Basically we follow on from our "greatest lists" by setting up a virtual Hall of Fame for the best of the best. Do something like 10 inductions for the first month and then a few a month from then on?
We take it in turns to put forward who we believe should be in the Hall of Fame. This can be due to averages, runs scored, wickets taken, what they did for the sport etc.
Thoughts?

See the boxing one, this is the best thread I have ever taken part in on 606v2, an absolute wealth of knowledge. So, if such a thing is to take place with cricket, it'd need to be of a similar quality to this in order to do it justice.

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
I'm sure we have enough members on the cricket section to get something like this going. Although obviously the nominations would have to be properly discussed.
Bradman, Grace, Sachin, Warne get in automatically IMO

OK on a serious note,Sachin has to be there in the Hall of Fame.

Not sure Grace would be that automatic tbh.Hobbs,Hammond,Gavaskar should be ahead of him IMO.

For what Grace did for the game he would have to be in my opinion.
I'd say that Sachin would be the exception to that rich.

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
Similar to the boxing one, we would have to draw up a list of say 10 that get in automatically.
Also, those that are still playing cannot be considered for obvious reasons - in that their record may improve or decline rapidly.
Not very easy with cricket this, given that there are so many more boxers than world class cricketers. Really each team only has one or two players that would be hall of fame worthy, whereas in boxing there are stacks of weight divisions that have all had plenty of hall of fame worthy fighters.

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
Surely those at the end of their careers can still be considered Fists?
Sachin and Dravid's records aren't exactly going to suddenly decline. But apart from those two I don't think there's many players that are still playing who I would think of being in a hall of fame (playing part time in the IPL doesn't count as still playing IMO)

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
After thinking about it, I don't think this is something that would have much legs.
Cricket has far too few great players outside of the initial names that we would come up with, and also plenty of those players are still playing today, and thus would be excluded.
Maybe something for a few years time when the current generation are retired.

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
We are talking about Tests arent we?So the IPL is pretty much pointless in this discussion.Gregers wrote:Surely those at the end of their careers can still be considered Fists?

Again I didn't mention just test, ODI greats could also be inducted.
Gilly for example

TBH Gilly was a better Test player than an ODI one.At least average wise.Gregers wrote:Again I didn't mention just test, ODI greats could also be inducted.

Do you think someone like Bevan could be inducted in this list?I dont think so.

Bradman, and sachin would have to be first names inducted into a hall of fame.

Bevan was quality, although maybe not HOF quality.
Rhodes could be solely for changing fielding

Hadlee for carrying the Kiwis attack in the 80s.
Imran for his inspirational leadership in the 92 WC no to mention the fact that he was a great all rounder.

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
This is getting very messy.
Let me have a think about the best way to go about this. Like I say, it'd need to be similar in format to that of the boxing hall of fame, as that is tremendous. Transparent, fool-proof and accurate.

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
Would it not be best if posters nominate their top 10 in order and Gregers calculates the thread after a certain date?

Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
Stella, we'll do it like the boxing one, such a task deserves the thought and effort. Will draft up a post later outlining the guidelines to everyone for how voting works etc.
Re: 606v2 Cricket Hall of Fame
That ok with you Gregers? If you don't mind, you could run it once it is up and running i.e. counting up the votes and letting us know who made it in etc.
I'll PM you about it tonight probably.

No, no, I don't want to run it, haha. You suggested it, and plus I probably wouldn't find time.
I just want to make sure we set it up properly, however, in order to do it justice.

CF there is a difference between running it and helping a person out who runs it.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to do a hall of fame per country. you often find popular opinion isn't enough as the representation from posters vary a lot from country to country.
For SA I propose.
Greame Pollock
Eddie Barlow
Jacques Kallis
There are some others, but my mind draws a blank right now.

I would prefer one big hall of fame. Remember, not all nominees will be Cricketers (Duckworth, Lewis).
