Who has been the Rookie of the Year so far?
Rookie of the Year so far
As we approach the half way point of the regular season, I thought I would put up a vote/ discussion on how this year's rookies have done so far.
I looked at who has shown the most consistency and came up with these six:-
Cam Newton
Newton's stellar rookie season continues. His seven rushing touchdowns are good for third in the NFL and he's second in the NFL in passing yards.
AJ Green
Green, the number four overall pick out of Georgia, has been just as advertised, and has established himself as the Bengals' top offensive scoring threat only seven games into his rookie year.
Andy Dalton
The Dalton-era in Cincinnati has been characterized by a solid scoring offense, and his output has been better than expected in his rookie year.
Von Miller
Miller's excellent rookie campaign continues. He now has six sacks on the season, leading the Broncos in that category.
Aldon Smith
The rookie now has 6.5 sacks over the seasom so far, and that's while playing in a rotation. The No. 7 overall pick in last year's draft is looking well worth the high selection.
Ryan Kerrigan
Kerrigan has come in as an impact rookie at defensive end, making big plays and pulling in good numbers on defense.
Plenty of others have had their moments too such as Julio Jones, Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, Christian Ponder, Marcel Dareus, JJ Watt, Jabaal Sheard, Philip Taylor, Adrian Clayborn, Nate Solder, Demarco Murray, Delone Carter and Denarius Moore.

It has to be Cam doesn't it? Yes he has thrown a few picks but he has revitalised the Panthers. Imagine if they had linebackers! They could be great!

I went for Newton as well. He's turned the Panthers into an exciting team to watch. That goes a long way in my book. It's not just that they are now exciting though, he has far exceeded my expectations of him. His stats are impressive for a veteran let alone a rookie. The others have been very good as well but he's in a different league at the minute.

As much as I'd love to pick Von, it has to be Cam Newton, he's been phenomenal.

Went for Cam, if I was choosing a defensive rookie it would be Aldon Smith (not just talking with my niner hat on!)

I guess it has to be Cam but every time I see Von Miller play I can't help thinking the only good things going on with that franchise come when he's invlolved in plays....

Re: Rookie of the Year so far
Has to be Cam. It's such a QB driven league that even if someone at another position was more deserving Cam would still win it.
Re: Rookie of the Year so far
Well I went for Andy Dalton. It's obvious that Cam will win it but given the choice I'd take the wins that the Red Rifle (can't help but feel that's just a rip-off of Ryan Fitzpatrick's nickname) has delivered. In the spirit of the ESPN Football Today podcast I'll quote Raheem Morris:
Stats are for losers, you keep looking for stats I'll keep looking for wins'

It has to be Cam Newton. I have loved watching him play this year! There are been other very good rookie performances, but for the expectation placed upon him its good to see him show up

Re: Rookie of the Year so far
speaking of A.J Green
apparently seattle C.B Richard Sherman (6th round)
has gone to a radio station and said how overated A.J Green is.
this may be why lots of people hate seattle!!!
A.Js awill be an elite reciver in 2 years and would probably put him second on the list.
Then Dalton.
belive me or not the bengals are going to the play-offs.
and Baltimore are missing out.

I vote Cam because of his great play, but Dalton is also worthy of consideration.
My fantasy football site reported on this and at the end of the story offered their analysis of it:
"Sorry. Who is Richard Sherman again?" lol

Just going against the grain and saying Von Miller. The guy is playing behind a rubbish defensive line but he is seriously impressive. Just watch him and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Rookie of the Year so far
I think dalton or aldon smith, they have drastically improved their teams, newton is a special talent but that hasn't translated to success. Aldon smith is among the leaders in sacks and he doesn't even start, once he learns coverage, he will be seen as the best defensive player this year. Dalton is just smart and he had done superb seeing as how they dont exactly have an outstanding run game.
