Re: That Was Embarassing
Were always going to be quite vulnerable at the back without no Vidic or Ferdinand; can't see why Fergie didn't start with Fletcher.

Premier league seems to be bunching up quite nicely at both the top and the bottom. Could be a nail biting finish to the season.

Arsenal need to make sure they take advantage of their game in hand this time. Apparently Fergie not speaking to the media and told his players not to either!

League is still Man United's .. Arsenal will once again explode and blow their opportunity to win silverware like they did against Birmingham. They just don't have the nerve.

Liverpool fan in peace. Honest!
Can't understand why you didn't start Fletcher, this is the kind of game he thrives on. And leaving him off the field until the 83rd minute is very strange indeed. Maybe he wasn't fully fit?
I thought both teams were lucky to end with 10 men. Jamie Carragher's tackle was a shocker, as was Rafael's. To be fair though, it was a definite free-kick for Maxi's 'challenge' on Rafael, and a yellow card. Any word on how Nani is? I heard that Carragher waited outside the United dressing room to apologise to Nani, but I guess that's cold comfort if he's going to miss games.
AberdeenSteve - Completely agree with you, Arsenal look like they will end up blowing it, they don't seem to have the bottle. I can see United going to the Emirates and winning anyway, and even if Arsenal were to beat them, they'll end up dropping points to 'lesser' teams.
And why is Fergie not speaking to the media or allowing his players to do so?

Can anybody tell me of a Liverpool v United match when Carragher has NOT received a card (of either colour) ??

He gets away with no more than Vidic and Ferdinand have done in the past. Some of the suff they've done to Torres over the years was borderline GBH.

Well the only way Vidic knew how to play against him was to kick lumps out of him - didn't work often.

Re: That Was Embarassing
Another daft comment - Torres got the best of Vida once, when he made the wrong decision and fell in his attempt to get the ball. He has played against him numerous times on and he only had issue with him in one watch, two years ago, and that was his fault for making the wrong decision. This is the only time he had an issue with him.
Re: That Was Embarassing
And the game at Anfield in September/October 2009 in which Torres tortured the life out of Vidic and in which he should have been sent off a least once before he actually was. Then again for Spain against Serbia which then prompted Mr Vidic to proclaim that he wasn't afraid of Mr Torres ahead of the Chelsea game last week.
I would make that 'often' and it was clearly an issue that Vidic felt the need to comment on. Any time that Vidic 'got the better of Torres it was due to him kicking Torres around the pitch.

Re: That Was Embarassing
Yep, and what did he do for Chelsea??!! oh dear all, Vida had him in his pocket and didn't foul him at all. Vida wasn't prompted to say anything out of past performances. He actually said he isn't bothered who he plays against but looks forward to playing against the bigger players. He is a player who doesn't speak to the press; there have been many made up interviews with him in the past - the proper comments from him were on the Man Utd website.
The point is Vida is a tough, no nonsense player and when Torres plays against people like that he will be on the floor 90% of the time as he only need to poke him for that to happen. It has happened with other defenders not just Vida.
Anyway, enough of this now or else there will be I will defend Vida forever and I would prefer not to have a row on here

Fair enough, although we can debate without rowing

Re: That Was Embarassing
I was quite enjoying reading the debate you two were having and think valid points were raised on both sides, Vidic on occasion has struggled against Torres. He has also in some games played well against him. We also now need to remember he isnt a shadow of what he was a couple of years ago

Re: That Was Embarassing
No, he certainly isn't. It's a real shame too. He's lost that amazing intial burst of acceleration which would take him away from defenders, and I just wonder if he is playing within himself in order to avoid injury. There are similarities between Torres' loss of form and that of Michael Owen pre-departure from Liverpool.
He'll score goals for Chelsea, although I don't think he'll ever replicate his first few seasons at Liverpool.
