What Will Be The Best Game Of Week 9?
Week 9 Discussion
Just to start the thread off, what game do you think will be the game of the week?
Despite plenty of divisional games this week, I'm looking forward to the Packers @ Chargers. Will Philip Rivers manage to be the normal Philip Rivers against a defense which has 13 interceptions but allows almost 300 passing yards a game? Will one of the leagues best pass defense's (in terms of yards allowed) be able to contain Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay receivers? I can probably guess the answers to these questions but I'm still intrigued to see how it all plays out.

im not lying
its gonna be a belter
Tjax the most underated QB in the league
vs
Romo the most overated QB in the league IMO
thinks its going to be very close. two good defences .
you dont need a HOF standerd QB to have a good game, just 2 evenly matched teams

Re: Week 9 Discussion
There are a few good match ups this week. The New York Jets play the Buffalo Bills and a win for the Jets would put them level in the AFC East and probably just one win behind the Patriots.
The Broncos against the Raiders is and intriguing game too. Will Tebow play? The Raiders surely can't be any worse than last time? The Broncos surely can't get any worse, can they?
The Ravens going head-to-head with the Steelers for the AFC North honours is another interesting one.

Aaron Maybin returns to the team that cut him just a few months ago as he gets a chance to prove to them he was worth the 1st round pick.NFL MIKE wrote:There are a few good match ups this week. I'm pretty sure Tebow has been declared the starter and I would expect to see him play the whole game, Palmer claims to have the Raiders playbook sorted after just two weeks and can his reunion with Houshmandzadeh (if he plays) start with a bang? McFadden has been ruled out for Oakland but the Broncos expect McGahee to return despite a broken hand.
It will be interesting to see how the Ravens @ Steelers game goes, after the season opener everyone was saying that last year would be their last Super Bowl appearance for a while (I'm not predicting they'll return this year) but they've bounced back to have a good season which see's them currently leading the AFC North, can the Ravens prove they really have the Steelers number or was it just a bad day at the office for the Steelers?

Re: Week 9 Discussion
I'm intrigued by the Bears Eagles game. Both teams have started to really get it together now and they'll face each other on Monday Night, should be a close game.
Giants Patriots could also surprise a few and be a close game, Brady struggles against pressure and the Giants bring the pressure from their front 4 like no-one else. Eli Manning also is in good form and could do well against a poor Patriots pass D

Definitely some good games this week.
I went for GB vs SD as the top one (but I would). Otherwise BAL vs PIT, NE vs NYG, NYJ vs BUF, TB vs NO and CHI vs PHI all look to have quality and should be close games

Re: Week 9 Discussion
I went for the Jets - Bills. Personally I'm obviously more interested in the Packers - Chargers game but if the Bills knock off the Jets then they have a great chance of making the playoffs. I predicted that the Jets would miss the playoffs before the season but I doubt anyone would have said the team that denied them could be the Bills.
Lots of fantastic games this week though after a couple of weeks where there have been some less interesting games. I'll also be closely following Bucs - Saints with big divisional consequences, Giants - Patriots two leaky secondaries that could result in a shootout, Bears - Eagles is the resurgence real or are the Eagles no better than they looked at the start of the year, and of course Ravens - Steelers.

What games are people currently watching? I've just started watching the Browns @ Texans to see Phil Dawson kick another 50 yard field goal to make it 3-14.

watching the mighty niners, the offense is being efficient but the D is scary good. The interception leads to points and then the ff leads to the touchdown for our fullback. The redskins D is ok but their offense is struggling

14-3. The Bucs getting annihilated in the passing and runninggame. Struggling to get things going on offence. Will be at least 17-3 Saints in field goal range with 20 seconds to go.

watching Redzone before the Packers later.
Some decent stuff going on, but a lot of Field Goals.
Texans run game is going pretty well. First TD run by Tate was very good

speaking of the above... there's all the talk atm about RB contracts etc.
Arian Foster has a tiny contract this year and will be a restricted FA next year so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Nice FG by KC :P

24-6 Saints. Not looking good. Bucs' run d is giving up too many yards and Brees is doing what he usually does.

The Texans running game is shredding the Browns defense, both Foster and Tate have over 100 yards and a touchdown.

Re: Week 9 Discussion
why did teams like seattle and the redskins not draft a qb, they will struggle with what they have right now. Also think arizona should have taken one as kolb will not get anyone far, I thought that trade should have been the other way round, a 2nd and kolb for drc

But the Eagles didn't need a Corner and the Cardinals definitely needed a QB. Also Fitzgerald basically refused to sign a new deal until a QB was brought in and Kolb was his preferred option apparently.

Re: Week 9 Discussion
The Kolb trade made sense to be fair, it just hasn't panned out the way many thought Kolb would.
But I totally agree with you about SEA/WAS. The redskin offence from what they have shown on Redzone has looked horrible. No long passes, just short throws, dump passes and screens... no wonder the crowd is booing.
At least I've seen TJax air it out to Sidney Rice

I suppose but dalton, ponder, mallett etc were all available I think and they were better options, i felt as though it was a horrible trade the moment it happened. When you get a qb, I ask myself whether or not he can lead a team to the playoffs and i think the answer would have to be no, obviously its different with a rookie though

I thought the Kolb trade worked out great for the Eagles at the time. He didn't have a great record and had started under 10 games. I thought it was a ridiculous price to give up.

exactly what I thought m8, in the limited time I have seen flynn for instance, would he not have been worth giving up a 3rd for maybe

Re: Week 9 Discussion
Texans pick off an unnecessary attempt at a two point conversion, even if it had been completed the Browns aren't coming back from 14-30 in 5 minutes. One bright spot of the Browns offense this year is Cribbs' development as a WR.
I said many times that Kolb wouldn't work out for whoever traded for him, just a shame the Cards had to give up so much to get what they thought was the missing piece.
The Redskins and Seahawks didn't draft QB's as they obviously had other holes on their teams which needed filling, a rookie quarterback is unlikely to have saved the either team from being the season they are currently having, also there should be plenty of talented quarterbacks in the next draft.

there are plenty of top QBs potentially in the next draft. A good 5 or 6 guys with NFL starter potential in the "shortish" term

Texans set a new franchise rushing record with 263 yards today, Browns manage less than 200 yards of total offense.

Also want to say watch out for chris culliver of the niners. 6,1 and 4.3 speed, he looks the real deal, great cover man who is great playmaker as he returns ko and punts and he was a 5 star recruit as a receiver. Gore and culliver look like the only 3rd rounders that have worked out for the niners in the last 5/6 years. I wanted pp7 in the draft, this guy could be as good, high praise i know but I think he has potential.

rivers is horrible this year, I said at the start of the season on here that i think he is the most overated player in the league and he is proving it, have never understood why everyone liked him so much, he has always had good d and offensive weapons, he just never does anything when it matters, he is the reason i find san diego so boring to watch.

I hate Greg Olson with a burning, burning passion. Mark Dominik is a guy I have a lot of time for, thanks to some very good drafting and excellent waiver wire & practice squad raids. But if he doesn't fire Olson the second this season's over, he'll have lost a ton of respect in my eyes. I swear, Olson's play calling just kills our offense in the most horrendous way. Josh Johnson wildcat on 3&4th? are you kidding me? or taking that field goal midway through the fourth? His backside needs to be kicked curb-wise, urgently.
Re: Week 9 Discussion
A pretty comfortable win for the 49ers this week. The Dolphins beating (thrashing) the Chiefs must have been the big shock of the week.
A good win for the Jets to over the Bills. The AFC East will be very interesting if the Giants can hold out against the Patriots.

In reality this has been his first poor year, yes he's been on a good team but which elite quarterbacks don't have good all round teams? Also the fact that most of the arguments in which people have said Rivers isn't elite have come down to mentioning the fact he doesn't have a ring shows he is obviously a talented guy with good stats.niner wrote:Yeah but how can he be considered one of the elite after all his picks throughout the entire season, i honestly dont get all the hype around this guy

Could the Packers v Chargers be on for 45-45 tie?
That doesn't look likely now.
Brady just found Gronkowski on the third attempt for a TD and a 20-17 lead over the Giants

I turned on Cardinals as the Giants finished and WOW! Patrick Peterson. That's all I can say about that punt return.
