Fighter of the Year 2011?
My pick would be Donaire, he blew past a P4P ranked Montiel is 2 rounds and had a complete shut-out victory over Narvaez who was an unbeaten champ.
No matter the style of victory Manny has over JMM, 2 wins against an old Mosley and JMM cannot justify Fighter of the Year and neither can Floyd's 1 fight against Ortiz.
Martinez had a good solid win at the beginning of the year but beating Barker in his 2nd fight does not warrant short-listing for such an award.
Who would you pick?

Would agree, particularly if it is Froch, not necessarily just on his two wins but the fact he has won the super six and done it by largely fighting away from home, is worthy of recognition.

Only if he murdered someone? Surely you'd vote for Froch's execution here and now if a vote was being held...

Re: Fighter of the Year 2011?
for me it's between khan or the winner of the super 6
khan has cleaned up his division aside from bradley, but we wont go into why he hasn't fought him.
and the winner of the super 6 will have done the same, apart from bute who i dont think would beat either froch or ward to be honest.

Froch, Khan, Donaire the former two if they win their fights at the end of the year. Wouldn't object to Donaire getting it now to be honest.
Re: Fighter of the Year 2011?
I think most reasonably unbiased people would pick Donaire

I think it's between Donaire and the winner of Froch-Ward as most others seem to think. Wouldn't grumble with either outcome. Marquez would be a natural selection if he upset Pacquiao, but I can't for the life of me see that happening.

Hopkins becoming the oldest world champ ever? So the Dawson fight was dissapointing, the injury turned out to be genuine.
I'd say either Donaire, Hopkins or the supersix winner.

Are you including yourself as reasonably unbiased?
I take it then if the Cobra puts on a masterclass and shuts out Ward you'll be backing him to the hilt...
As it is I agree with Donaire being a standout. I would think a few people would have Amir Khan up there too, assuming he does the business against Peterson.

Re: Fighter of the Year 2011?
Wouldn't say Khan for this year.
There are more deserving fighters out there. Froch, Ward, Donaire as already stated.
Having possibly one of the most pathetic fights of the yuear against McCloskey (even though it was McCloskey that created the stinker) and beating a washed up Judah is not clearing out the Light Welter division. Not holding it against him, but just don't think his fights warrent a Fighter of the Year tag.
I agree with either Donaire, Rios, Gamboa or even Wlad K. Think Mr Klitschko Jr made a lot more people stand up and notice that he is untouchable after the Haye win. Grim division or not, you can't fault the guy for being too good for his weight.

Re: Fighter of the Year 2011?
My picks Donaire, as dissapointing as the Navarez fight was he still schooled a previously unbeaten and well proven fighter, and need i go into detail on the demolition of Montiel. Obviously the year isnt finished yet and there are still some big fights to go, Froch-Ward, Pac-Marquez ect, so my veiws my change.

Re: Fighter of the Year 2011?
Would have to be the winner of Froch vs Ward for me.
Kind of using a technicality, but I'd award it as an appreciation over the last few years with winning the super 6. It's had its problems but a great idea to finally bring the best of a division together.

Froch?
In 2011 he has beaten Glen Johnson on points and has a fight against Ward.
Even if he KO's Ward in 1 I'd say that isn't enough.
Winning the super six would be a good achievement but if you are looking purely at 2011 he hasn't done enough.
Donaire for me (especially if he fights / wins in Dec).

If "doing enough" is the criteria then you can't look past Chris Arreola, 5 fights in 2011, and 5 wins, as he looks to get back to challenging for a world heavyweight title.

Can't see Wlad getting the nod reborn. Spoke to a couple of Americans in the run up to the Haye fight and they were very much of the opinion it was an easy nights work for Wlad, given this not too sure it really made people sit up beyond these shores.
