'Offensive ROY: Andy Dalton'
Great thread Dave but have you forgotten about Cam ?
Think someone did an ROTY award thread last week and Cam won hands down bar a couple of clowns (your truly) who voted Von Miller.
I'll do the predictions tomorrow mate

I object to Cam Newton winning everything!
I'm valuing wins for the team... (despite the fact that I did indeed vote for Cam in the previous poll now that I think about it!)

Re: 2011 NFL midseason report: Award Winners & Playoff Prediction
Cam Newton has great figures but isn't the quarter back supposed to manage the game? The Panthers only 2-6. That's only one win up from this stage last year.
The Bengals were 2-6 after week 9 in 2010. With the additions of Dalton and Green they are now 6-2.

Amazing how many people have Steelers winning the North, their defeat to Ravens last week was crucial and Ravens now favs for the div, I do think they have the slightly tougher home stretch though but crucially are a game up and win all the tie-breaks, Steelers need plenty to go for them if they're to win the North....

I just think the AFC North is so unpredictable and the Ravens so inconsistent that the Steelers will end up winning it by one game, just a hunch

Re: 2011 NFL midseason report: Award Winners & Playoff Prediction
True, but Steelers have 2 games upcoming against Bungals, their season could be done by the time the second finishes - 11-5 is needed and still not guaranteed to make play offs, they lost 3 already....

And you have the Bungals to beat them this weekend making Steelers 6-4, tough getting to 11-5 from there....

Haha oh crap really? That was a bit stupid of me, truth is I haven't got a clue what's going to happen in the AFC north it's just a weird division, might change my pick though

Re: 2011 NFL midseason report: Award Winners & Playoff Prediction
The only thing I can guarantee you about the AFC North is that the Browns aren't winning it, think it could easily go to either of the other 3 though. Bengals are coming into a very tough run of games with I think 2 against the Steelers 1 against the Ravens and 1 against the Browns (I know playing the Browns sounds easy, but it might just be the day that everything goes well).Grizzly wrote:Amazing how many people have Steelers winning the North, their defeat to Ravens last week was crucial and Ravens now favs for the div, I do think they have the slightly tougher home stretch though but crucially are a game up and win all the tie-breaks, Steelers need plenty to go for them if they're to win the North....

Hmm... can't quite see that happening (I had to pick on you for pointing out I choose Andy Dalton... before a bunch of others did too!).
He has been doing well, its not like he's doing bad, but this year he has no "stats" at all. Last year he was pilling up the stats and he still didn't win Defensive POY, so I just don't see it happening. I'd love to be wrong because it would probably be a sign that the Packers defense might have stopped giving up 300+ passing a game!
And to clarify Comeback Player, its supposed to be someone who was out the prior year (or even over the offseason if it was relatively serious - think the year Welker got hurt in the Pats last game with an ACL, but was back week 1 of the next year) and has comeback better than before or just plain great.
So Stafford, Steve Smith would all seem logical, but not so much Eli Manning, who whilst playing an awful lot better this year didn't miss any time last year and played every snap.
Sproles is an interesting one because you could argue the Chargers left him on the scrapheap, assumed he was going to be of little use but has shown himself to be more effective than the Heisman Trophy winning 1st round pick

Re: 2011 NFL midseason report: Award Winners & Playoff Prediction
Dave - the criteria for comeback player of the year has always confused me but players don't necessarilly have to come back from injury they permit the award to go to a player who was out of form the previous year - can be a bit confusing, and there's no set criteria about how long players had to be out if receiving the award following an injury - M Vick won the award last year but was fit, healthy and available the previous season, Andy reid just decided that he would only be back up.
Also, I'm sure Willis McGahee was given the comeback award despite never having played in the NFL (he got injured in his last college game and was drafted 'crook'
As for Clay, yes I accept his numbers aren't up to last year but I think he's still getting to the QB quickly, they're just getting rid of the thing quicker...

Re: 2011 NFL midseason report: Award Winners & Playoff Prediction
Don't really understand how Jared Allen is getting so much love. Sure he's got decent sack numbers but I can't really see how he's better than players like Suggs and Revis that have arguably won games for their team with their play making ability. Same goes to some extent for D-Ware, for me they're the equivalent of Kyle Orton last year putting up junk yards making him look better than he really was (which is still better than Tebow ofc :p).

Re: 2011 NFL midseason report: Award Winners & Playoff Prediction
Jared Allen is definately one of the best, its not just the sacks he gets, he is always disrupting the qb whether it be tipping balls or getting a pick. The guy also doesn't tire and his stats are not over inflated, the vikings had another 3 or 4 wins in their pocket because of Allen and the D but mcnabb and the offense didnt match the quality or put up any points in the 2nd half. Plus he has matched up directly with Donald Penn, gross etc. He is also a fumble causing machine, his two strip sacks of newton won them field position and won them the game. Plus he is hilarious and a constant motivator. I would take a pass rusher over a cb if i had to pick
