Chris Eubank Junior
May have been posted before but he's signed with Hennessy and makes his pro debut on the undercard of the Fury fight this Saturday. Fairly bold statements coming from Fat Mick:
“We are delighted to have signed such a major talent. There was a lot of competition for his signature, not only from other promoters but other broadcasters as well. We believe that Chris Eubank Jnr has the potential to not only become an elite world champion but also transcend boxing and become a major world star on route to the titles.”
“I honestly already believe he is the best middleweight in this country even without (having) a pro fight."
Unfortunately it doesn't look as if Channel 5 will be showing the fight which is a shame.

Re: Chris Eubank Junior
I can't for love nor money think of which fight it was recently, but one of the commentators mentioned him... Said he'd been in sparring with someone (it might have been the Groves fight come to think of it) and was definately one to watch out for.
Have heard nothing but good things about him, but not every superstar youngster transcends the sport into professional superstardom but will be interesting to see how he develops.

After watching At Home with the Eubanks it's strange to think of him boxing now, makes me feel old.

Yeah he's been sparring with Groves. Looks remarkably like Miguel Cotto.

He did his training out in the states, think he won a golden gloves tournement. Not sure why all his training was done stateside, but had been tipped from a long way back (everynow and again, he'd get some coverage), thought we might have seen him make a bid for the olympics.
Hennessy is sure hyping him up, I hope he lives up to the talent of his dad, maybe with a bit less of the showmanship.

Last time I saw him fighting was in a multi story car park.
His Dad learned his trade in the States as well so maybe he just wanted to follow in the same footsteps.
I can't see Chris Snr liking his son being a fighter. He never seemed too keen on the violence of the sport after Watson.

Re: Chris Eubank Junior
Strange decision for a supposed top talent to sign for fat Mick Hennessey. Given how badly he let Froch down, would have thought Warren or Hearn would have snapped him up if he was that good.
Anyway, let's hope he's NOT a chip off the old block, inasmuch he has the talent to be a lot more but wastes it by posing and throwing hardly any punches during rounds and avoids the other world champions throughout his career.

Hennessey will be promising him Channel 5 outings and talking of making him as popular as his dad on terrestial television, then he will take Jr's hopes...and eat them

Can i just clarify as i've had a PM from a member having a moan - that was not and was never intended to have a racist conotation to it.
I was say he was doing his monkey impression, are black people not allowed to have an impression levelled at them? It could have been a white man and i'd have said the same thing, as it does look like he's simply perching on the top rope.
Apologies, but that was never my intention. There's many things i am on here (brilliant, witty, shy, retiring) but a racist isn't one of them.

Might've done though if he'd broken him down to a legit stoppage, instead of the ref just waving it off because the other guy wasn't doing anything.Big Paul wrote:I was amazed at how much he sounds like his father! Re: Chris Eubank Junior
i think he looked very good, This would have been a poor opponent for a prospect on his 6-8th fight. Lets not forget that this was his debut and i think he only had about 20 amateur fights (or so a comentator said) so all in all i think it was a decent opponent. He now knows that some people are going to have tight guards and he has to learn how to break them up. The body shots looked good and going 4 rounds on his debut throwing a lot of punches and not looking tired at all is a good sign for the future

Very impressed, looked pretty quick, good crisp punching, (no amateurish james degale debut punches) good combos and workrate, definitely one to keep an eye on.
Fury looked woeful, felt sorry for the canadian who should have been given the benefit of the doubt, as no doubt Fury would have been. Exciting fight due to all the flaws Tyson has but he needs to improve a hell of a lot!!

Alex, given the ammount of times you've felt compelled to qualify a statement with (no homo) and the fact you once admitted feelings of love for a girl, I feel you absolutely must be a homo. No other explanation.

Forget about Jr beating up on a sacrificial lamb, did anyone else of a certain age get goosebumps when the arena went dark and the opening bars of Simply the Best fired up?
Took me back the early 90's when I really started to love the sport. Great time to be a young fan of the sport, and I was wistfully thinking back to watching Chris Sr when he used to walk out to Tina Turner. Brought back some great memories.

I wasn't sure if he would go the other way and do something completly different, but I loved the fact he came out to that song and didn't hide who he was. It made for great theatre.
He did look quite good though, notwithstanding the quality of opposition. I will look forward to seeing how he progresses.

Re: Chris Eubank Junior
I was impressed about how commercially astute he seemed.
Signing for Mick seemed stupid - yet this gives his a chance to build an audience. C5 could show his first 10 fights, this would make him one of the best known boxers in the UK and he'll only be 10 pro fights into a career.
Using the same music and entrance as his dad rather than distancing himself from it.
At the end of the fight mentioning his twitter - boxers don't usually seem so commercially aware.

I think being on Channel 5 is a very good idea for young boxers, and in fact, most boxers. To get the exposure of terrestrial TV and to have the recognition of the most casual fans is something that I would have thought would be seriously craved.
The viewing figures will interest me, I truly believe there is still a big audience out there that has an interest in boxing, but just needs to have access to it.

I thought the ringside interview with his Dad (broadcast around the arena) was a bit OTT. Could have been distracting for Junior.
