Rate my course
First topic message reminder :
We've had a few threads in the past where people have put up links to show their swings, thought I would do something a bit different. My club has just redesigned it's website and it went live last week. So I thought I would put up a link to the new site and people could have a look. Some good pictures in the course section although they don't really show some of the undulations, very hard to capture those in 2D.
Anyone else want to post a link to their club website?

Played your place this year. The Society of London Captains visited on their Autumn Tour. First time I'd played it. Quite a tough track and although only got 33 points, I didn't "blob" one hole which I was quite proud of. Putting was absolute rubbish (was for the whole tour)

It must be about 6 or 7 years since I last played Stoneham, should play it more often really as we have a reciprocal there. The course hasn't changed at all in the 20 or so years that I've known it, maybe the odd change like a new bunker or something but not the routing of the holes.
I've actually considered a 5 day membership there so I can get more after work golf in as it's only 5 minutes from my office carpark to the clubhouse whereas it's an hour to my own course.

Re: Rate my course
Broadstone is a lovely course. I've played there a few times, and enjoyed it every time.
That claim about being the premier heathland course might have something to do with geography. I'd guess that Broadstone considers 'the south of england' is not the south east and not the south west, and that's fine as far as I'm concerned.
There are a few nice courses in that area - Ferndown, Parkstone and Purbeck - but some real clunkers as well. Polarised golf for sure.

Kwini - do you ever come back home for visits (family or anything)?
I'm sure there are plenty of us (including me of course) who would welcome you for a game if you were back in the area
I'd even drive you by the old ICL building just to try to revive a few memories

Here's mine down in sunny Cornwall

Photos ok but don't really do the course the justice it deserves. Photos of the 7th burnt out fairway in June though are good pics? Winter fees currently @ £17.50 so some good value to be had if any of you boys down this way. The green with ravine to the right is the 10th. Very scenic with views all the way across from the lizard point to Penzance.

33 points round Broadstone is a very fine effort, especially first time round because there are a lot of subtleties that you have to know to score well.
As I've said before, always happy to host anyone for a game if they are in the area.
NST, I really must get up to your place for a knock and a few beers, I'll drag the wingman up as well

Davie,
Visit very infrequently which is a shame, family scattered!
Would love to meet some of these 606v2'ers about whom, of course, I've conjured up such vivid images. But very unlikely for 2012 tho' drifting by an ICL building is attractive.
But very kind; Thanks!

Re: Rate my course
This is where I call home, not the best course mentioned in this thread by any means but I love it. As with a few of the above posts the photos are very amateur-ish and don't really do the course justice; there's also been amendments on 3 or 4 of them since the pics & scorecard were added and it's now about 50 yards longer than the scorecard on the website and sss 68 instead of 67, still par 69.

You can click on the camera icons on the course planner to see the different views which is quite neat. However, to be honest, the photography is awful. The photos are very old and the angles are a bit odd too.

We had the '606 Southern Open' there in the summer, there were 6 of us if memory serves me right. Had a really good day, everyone enjoyed your course. Greens were very true. Quaint clubhouse as well with little alcoves hidden away.
And yes, a lot of rounds at Broadstone start with a drop out of the stream which runs all the way down the right of the fairway or a hack out the heather if even further right!
We didn't have a clue that there was amember in our midst when we played it did we?
I'd put a link to my club http://www.thorpewoodgolfcourse.co.uk/index.asp but the website is absolutely rubbish, might help if the tour worked. But being as how it is a pay & play and is nearly always full, they do not need to advertise, or tout for members.

This is the course I call home when back in the UK, have kept my membership on the whole time I have been overseas and always look forward to going back and playing there.

The photos don't really do the course and the views justice, but if you click on the images at the top of the page you will get a better idea of the place.

Lets just have a little think about courses in Deeside in Order of How good they are !!
Ballater
Peterculter
Banchory
Inchmarlo
Deeside
Paul Lawrie & Deeside are a marriage made in heaven !!
I knew something was coming back.
Thanks for being restrained. I'll give you Ballater and Banchory. I've never played Inchmarlo but I'd put Deeside above Peterculter, but not by much.
Not sure about your comment on Paul Lawrie. I don't know the guy but from what I see he just tries to use the facilities in the same manner as any other member.

I didn't see the thread for the OFM open til after the event - I was working in Madrid - otherwise I would have definitely joined you guys, and of course got you on at guest rates! Don't think I would have been able to handle the embarrasment though if you guys had rocked up and whupped my ass! The course looks fairly straight forward but is deceptively hard, the greens catch out a lot of people. When Open qualifying is held here, any score under par is usually enough to see you through, and level par sometimes makes the play off.

I was a student member here for several years before becoming an adult member this last year as I was too old to be a student, even though I was in FT education... I would deduct points for that but it is the done thing in this area.
The course has a really good mix to it, the par 3s aren't the longest and make for good scoring chances for better players. There are some fantastic views of the Castle, The Carse, Ochils and out to Trossachs. The course was redesigned by Henry Cotton and there are some nice elevation changes, especially the downhill dogleg right 9th and the uphill dogleg left 15th. They keep it in good order too, it dries well for a parkland.

Played it in the mid / late 80's in a Uni match against Stirling. Winter time but remember the course as being varied and interesting. Stirling had recently started Golf Scholorships so they were a tough team to beat. They had Colin Dalgleish (former Walker Cup Captain) and John Huggan (Golf Reporter) playing 1 and 2 and both International players at the time.

They have an excellent sports set up at Stirling Uni, they take it very seriously. Gordon Sherry and Catriona Matthew were up there once upon a time too, and most recently Richie Ramsay and Gavin Dear.

A better education than a golf scholarship in the States, but progress with golf is limited by our weather. My mates daughter went to a States College this "fall" and was playing golf in the mid 90's only 2 weeks ago.

Must have done as there is a fantastic gym up there, so no excuses for not being in top condition.

You can click on the photos to view each 9 holes. The yellow track is probably my favourite.

That's a nice looking track(s), clubhouse looks impressive as well.
I think we'll need to have a 606 day out there
