Fedal - who you got?
First topic message reminder :
Hello
Another Fedal meeting tomorrow evening.
The Nadull has won all three meetings this year, including the mother of all beat downs in Miami.
However, the great one did win their last meeting at the WTF.
So how do you think this latest installment will play out?
Personally, I believe that The Nadull will put on a clinical display of moonballing to the great one's SHBH, and thus will win the match in straight sets, or possibly in three.
emancipator - I is neutral.

Re: Fedal - who you got?
It was telling that Nadal said in his interview just before the match that he would still have an opportunity to go through to the semis even if he lost the match. Of course I think he wanted a win but IMO he had no intention of playing a long hard battle against Federer at his best in a RR match.
I'm not trying to take anything away from Federer... He was at his brilliant best. In fact playing as he was he probably would have beaten Nadal even if Nadal had thrown everything at him.
This is why I sometimes feel this event is more like an exhibtion than a tournament. Its not life or death.

As unexpected as it may seem, the Nadal tennis Era, also known as Moonballgate, maybe closer to the end than we all estimated.
After winning the French Open and making the finals of 3 of the 4 slams, Nadal's year has turned into a sorry state of affairs. Early reports suggest a stomach bug may have hindered his performance recently, along with tendonitis, sore throat, mad cow disease, toe fracture and blistered finger.

The great Bill Shankly once said much the same about football :
"It's not life or death, you know. It's far more important than that. "
Meanwhile ..... let me know hawkeye when you next see an exhibition with that standard of play or that much build-up and crowd interest..... !

I think you are wrong there HE. It was Federer who did not want a long hard battle and did everything to shorten the points. Nadal woudl have loved a tight 3 stter with teh "usual" outcome.

Point taken. The atmosphere was electric (well it appeared that way from my side of the television). And I did say Federer was at his brilliant best.
But Nadal just didn't have fight he usually has. He knew that the result would not determine whether he gets to the semi's. Spectacular as Federers play was we the audience knew this as well...

I agree Federer didn't want a long hard battle. I know Nadal is not your favourite player but I see no evidence that he is crazy enough to want to turn an inconsequential match into an epic. He said as much in his interview before the match. It was always likely that the result of this match would not matter. Both Federer and Nadal are favourites to beat Fish and Tsonga.
I still think Federer was brilliant and Nadal may have to work hard against Tsonga. At least Nadal can be clear about what he needs to do in that match.

Re: Fedal - who you got?
Not only i doubt Nadal can recover from this, i doubt he wants to recover. Why should he, to get another beating against Djoko in the semi?
Imo he'll focus on the DC from now on

I agree. Though He can probably beat Tsonga tomorrow (certainly not easy job), I doubt he will want to face Djoko in the semi....unless Ferrer wins tonight and Djoko ends up 2nd of the group. We never know if they want to play up with RRs.

If Tipsy wins tonight and Nole loses, don't count Tipsy out thinking he can win this.
