Your First Round of 2011
Joy of joys today was my first round in 2011 and to my surprise I can still hit the ball. My irons bar one shot were a little ropey but everything was ok. I found that I was hitting the driver longish given the temperature and my short game was in good shape.
The biggest surprise of the day was an eagle two on a par four. I holed a little punchy knocked down 9 iron from around 125 yards. The shot was blind so I had to run up a slope to see it and just caught the last bounce as it went in the hole.
So how did you guys first golf of 2011 go or are you still waiting to break the clubs out this season?

Re: Your First Round of 2011
Had mine a couple of weeks ago. Okay off the tee, surprisingly solid irons and then awful round the greens. Could only get it close by flopping everything so I could be aggressive with the wet weather and slop it close on the wet greens. Putts were just luck as it was pretty bumpy but all in all gave me a big hunger for it. Been up the range three times a week since which is a rarity for me in January!

I am still waiting  Was thinking of calling LJ for a quick game, working on the theory that as he had a broken foot, then I might just have half a chance of beating 'El Bandido'.
But no, time and tide means I am still a latecomer to the ball :|

Not popped my cherry for 2011 either. Badly sprained ankle has stopped me playing since early December though most years I try to play through the winter. Had a chance of a game this weekend but decided to give the foot one more week to strengthen. Last thing I want to do is come back too early and mess up my summer!
Hopefully play next weekend (maybe even just 9 holes) in preparation for first competition of the year the following weekend

Played 3 rounds so far this month. Broken 80 each time [which for me is good going !]. I was in a really rich vein of form before the snow arrived and have managed to maintain this to some extent - somehow !
No golf this weekend unfortunately but hope to play next weekend ...

I know, I know, I'm the original cheapskate, but................. I have been taking a tree down in my garden and trawling the bits up to the local tip. Well, every time I visit the tip, I look at the golf clubs that are brought in working on the assumption that one day...........
Today I look in the bin and there it is, a rich vein, looking like a blue gold, a Scotty Cameron Newport te I3. How much have I got on me, damn! I forgot to put any money in my pocket all I had was £1.41 that I scrabbled out of the car somehow.
'How much for this old thing guv?' I says
'£1 mate!' Comes the answer.
'Bargain' I responded with a little smile.
Come to Daddy!!

I'm going to play my first 18 holes since my operation on 1st Oct...... I played 13 holes last weekend, didn't hot the ball very consistently, psychologically I couldn't get myself to transfer my weight fully to my left leg (that was the knee that was operated on). But I have to just start trusting it.

Re: Your First Round of 2011
Had a few rounds this year and not going to badly playing tomorrow so hoping to see if it's just been a flash in the pan or not. Can't complain about any part of my game only my shot selection and the odd very bad shot but in general I seem to have got out of my previous type of self combustion if a hole doesn't go so well

First round in '11...
...will come sometime in April (unless I go somewhere warm). So much faffing (not sure what's allowed on this forum) snow on the ground and this rudey poo keeps coming every few days. I'm not as bad off as Kwini, he must be up to his armpits in this white shi te.
Can't see me getting the last round of the eclectic done.

Re: Your First Round of 2011
Only managed a couple of rounds this year due to moving house. However have been hitting the range religously 3x a week which the mrs is not happy about
Hitting the ball really well, and short game seems crisp, just now need to put the eclectic back on front burner and see how we do, am looking forward to the new season as the club im at do a whole host of scratch events so that deserves a :chewie:

Re: Your First Round of 2011
I played 3 rounds in January. Wanted to play yesterday but I've cricked my neck, but the pain is more palatable than the stench of that bloody awful deep heat stuff I keep whacking on Winter golf is a funny thing - all the shots I was playing well during the summer months (particularly hitting woods and hybrids off the deck) seem to have completely eluded me and I almost find it easier to smite irons than woods (probably something to do with angle of attack etc...) Things can only get better

Re: Your First Round of 2011
NST - in my experience, it's mostly down to the hardness of the frozen ground. I'm not the greatest long iron player in the world, usually prefering 3- or 5-woods from the fairway or even semi-rough, but like you, I find that shot deserts me in the winter and I find it easier to hit a crisp 3 or 4 iron of hard frozen ground than to try to bounce a fairway wood through the ball

What also tends to happen as well, is that once you've dug into a couple or topped a couple the silky smooth rhythm that you thought you possessed during those balmy summer evenings disappears only to see you resembling a chimpanzee on speed trying to throttle a snake :wooo:
