Barrington Sports Partnership and Competition
Cricketing folk
We are pleased to announce a partnership with sports retailer Barrington Sports. As you may or may not already know, Barrington Sports are a leading online Sports Specialist focusing on cricket, hockey, rugby, running and netball products.
You will notice a permanent 'sticky' thread that will be added to the cricket section in the coming days, which will contain details of the latest deals, offers and products available from Barrington Sports, and will be updated on a regular basis.
The timing of this partnership should be perfect for you to purchase any sports related gifts in readiness for Christmas. Likewise, should the cricketers amongst us be on the lookout for any new gear ahead of this coming season, Barrington Sports have a whole range of equipment and clothing available, including new 2012 cricket ranges from all the top brands.
To launch this venture, Barrington Sports have kindly agreed to hold a competition for one lucky 606v2 member to win a new cricket bat - a Puma Kinetic 5000 (pictured) - RRP £260.00.
Given their name, and the relation to cricket, we are going to hold a caption competition featuring a former Surrey and England legend, the great Ken Barrington. We are looking for a caption satisfying any one or more of the following criteria: humorous, witty, original.
The following photograph of Ken Barrington ducking to avoid a baton wielding policeman that is chasing an Indian fan at Bombay in 1961 will be the subject of your captions.
Incidentally, Barrington went on to make an undefeated 151, so it can't have shaken him up too much!
Please note that each participant can submit a maximum of three captions, which are to be written within this thread.
A winner will be chosen by the Barrington Sports team on Wednesday 7th December, so all captions must be submitted prior to stumps at 9am that same morning in order for your submission to be eligible.
Good luck, and hopefully you'll help support our partnership with Barrington Sports by taking a good look around their site and purchasing any items you may require.

I've got a couple of funny captions in mind, shame I can't enter
Won't say them though incase someone else has something similar in mind.
I feel there are endless opportunities with this photo!

When Ken was hit by the ball on the previous delivery this wasn't the reaction he expected when he said to the bowler 'can I get hit any harder'

Skyeman Full marks for your accurate spelling
Sadly, I'm better at limericks than caption comps. But some excellent suggestions already....

Bitter Scot pretends to be an indian policeman
Indian Policeman accepts no excuses as he attempts to flog the elephant on the pitch.
That isn't a bat...THIS is a bat.

After his success at stealing from the policeman, the phantom trouser thief of Bombay finds it harder to break down Barrington's defence.

Re: Barrington Sports Partnership and Competition
Thanks very much for all your suggestions. We put your captions to a vote across the Barrington Sports Team. First and foremost, everybody commented that they were brilliant. There were more than a few chuckles in our offices. Alas, we have to choose a winner and the results are as follows:
3rd place - Corporalhumblebucket with “At length, a personal emissary was sent to inform Barrington that his captain had been trying for at least half an hour to declare the innings closed”
2nd place – Fists of Fury with “The Indian version of Benny Hill was beginning to take off...”
And in first place, perhaps unsurprisingly, with over 50% of the votes was:
Skyeman with “Some people will do anything for a Barrington’s bat”
So well done to you Skyeman! Please get in touch with our customer service team directly and we will send the Puma bat out to you. And apologies to the others if our choice was the obvious one - democracy rules here I’m afraid!
Regards from the Barrington Sports Team
