Interesting golf facts
Thought this might be a bit of fun to lighten the mood.
Here is an interesting stat I just heard:
If McIlroy wins this weekend and Donald finishes T9 with just 1 other, Luke will win Race to Dubai by just FIVE EUROS.
So who else has got an interesting fact they would like to share?

Re: Interesting golf facts
It is amazing that with all that prize money on offer over the year, it could be as close as that.
On that subject, maybe doing it on prize money isn't the right way to do it? I like the points system the PGA tour use, but I don't think they have it quite right.

Here's a fact - we're quite capable of interesting ourselves, thanks.

Why are you posting things like that? Seriously, what do you hope to achieve by a comment like that?
All its going to lead to is more arguments.

Is there any need to be so rude?SmithersJones wrote:Here's a fact - we're quite capable of interesting ourselves, thanks.
I hadn't seen the fact mentioned in the other thread so thought it was a good post.

It just smacks of, as others have put it, being treated like children. The tone of the question is exactly like a primary school teacher saying, 'This is an apple. Apple begins with 'a'. Can anyone else think of something beginning with 'a'?'

What a wonderful example to set SJ . If you have nothing constructive (or at least polite) to say, maybe better not to say anything?SmithersJones wrote:Here's a fact - we're quite capable of interesting ourselves, thanks.

No, it doesn't. It smacks of people wanting to be offended by anything Admin say and wanting to pick a fight. If, say, D4S for example, had posted that nugget I seriously doubt you'd have replied the way you did.SmithersJones wrote:It just smacks of, as others have put it, being treated like children. Re: Interesting golf facts
interesting fact someone told me...
If you don't know if you have enough loft to clear a tree you can stand on the iron head and the shaft will point to the trajectory the ball will take
It appears to work as this shows the loft of the club
If you have heard it before fair enough but I hadn't and found it a useful approximation

99% of putts that are short don't go in.
I recall Faldo at one of his Open wins getting one of the 1% that drops.

Now that's a useful bit of info tarka, I've not heard it before.......and it makes sense
Tha reminds me; last time I inadvertently stood on my nine iron - I smacked myself in the googlies much to the laughter of my playing partners!

Ok Tarka, I can see what you are saying, but every golfer strikes the ball differently. The extent you hit down on the ball effectively de-lofts the club face, or opening the face can increase the loft, power also affects loft.
Hope we can move this swiftly on from the unpleasant tone of an earlier response

Re: Interesting golf facts
I hate it when i have to rest a club on the floor and the grip gets wet
Can this loft test trick be achieved with minimal wetness issues?
I suffer from other LOFT issues.........
Lack Of F-ing Talent

Davie, you've tied our hands by stating FACT in upper case as that, indeed, makes anything fact

hold the grip in your left hand, stand on the head with your right foot, the grip need never touch the ground
another thing to avoid wet grip of your wedge round green... Stick a tee in the ground and balance the grip on the tee, back of the wedge head on the deck. I seen a guy doing this a few weeks ago and copied him, he is a really cool guy like me

Re: Interesting golf facts
That's an interesting fact. I'll definitely have to test that one out. I guess you need to make sure you're on flat ground though.tarka wrote:interesting fact someone told me...

Tarka, ok but how do you then stop the tee from getting wet?

Re: Interesting golf facts
Now this IS a fact
Put my ball 20 yards behind a tree and I can hit a beautiful low stinger that will go no higher than about 5ft, with a full swing that will go the same distance as a regular shot.
BUT, take the tree away and can't hit that shot for toffee FACT!

I usually just rest any club that I've chipped/pitched etc with ontop of the flag. Also means that I won't forget said club, as has happened in the past.

You can't use the flag to chip with Gareth

Pfft, 35 years playing golf and I never heard of that one but it makes perfect sense. Nice one Tarka. Obviously it is only guide as I tend to hit my irons lower than most people (not just when I blade 'em)

Tarka
It is an interesting fact but if it does work then surely it only works if you hit the ball in a particular manner?

I'm trying to imagine a golfer with his foot on the head of a club, and trying to sight down that club shaft to see if it clears the tree in front of him!
