Mosconi Cup
Does anyone else watch this?
Along with the darts, its the highlight of the Christmas sports period.
Only caught a bit of it last night but will be watching it from here on in.
Anyone else a fan? (favourite year was when Ealr Strickland went nuts and started arguing with the crowd)

Strickland goes nuts every year. The guy is clearly crazy.

Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland was a legend but he's not played in a Mosconi Cup for a few years which is a shame

Re: Mosconi Cup
Somehow I just don't think the Mosconi Cup is as big an event in the UK as it was many years ago when the likes of Snooker legends Steve Davis, Jimmy White, Alex Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan completed for Team Europe. Also there should be for us CueSport Fans some kind of a mixed/cross-hybrid Snooker V Pool Competition at Christmas in which at first some of the not-so great UK Snooker players like Rory McLeod, Dominic Dale and Barry Pinches get to play against the likes of American legends Johnny Archer, Earl Strickland and Corey Duel on a 12 X 6 Table with American Sized Pool table pockets with racks/frames alternating between the Snooker Format and the Pool Format between each match. What do others think of my idea?

Re: Mosconi Cup
What about a hybrid/cross type of a competition involving both Snooker and Pool for the Mosconi Cup in order to generate the same levels of interest in the UK as was the case back in the mid to late 1990's when Snooker legends like Steve Davis, Alex Higgins, Jimmy White and Ronnie O'Sullivan competed for Team Europe.

Re: Mosconi Cup
Why not a hybrid Snooker/pool/kendo competition for the mosconi cup??
They could use kendo sticks instead of cues and when they've finished on the baize they could turn to eachother and start on the Star wars stuff!!
I'd buy a ticket!!

Well in that case they should forget the cues and have lightsaber fights. Earl Strickland would be a prime candidate for Team USA, with Darryl Peach his likeliest opponent from Team Europe!

It appears he's back this year. It's in Vegas and, looking at the line ups, I wouldn't give much for Europe's chances.John wrote:Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland was a legend but he's not played in a Mosconi Cup for a few years which is a shame

OH MY GOD SERIOUSLY, IS EARL 'THE PEARL' BACK? I don't usually look at the snooker/pool section because no one ever posts on it but this has just caught my eye. If Earl is back, I'm definitely watching.

Lets hope that Earl has another bust up at some point!
Re: Mosconi Cup
Dunno why you don't hold much hope, the Europe team is essentially guys who've been a big part in Europe winning 5 from the last 6 (including 3 of the MVPs) + Karl Boyes who's been in awesome form (perhaps better than any on either team.)EdWoodjr wrote:

Re: Mosconi Cup
USA are joke. Strickland is going to blow if it continues like this. The Americans were like shouting, 'oh look as soon as he's got a hard shot, he misses' but then the Americans couldn't even hit easy shots. Embarrassing. European team act classy & have respect, American players just talk through people playing shots. Hope they get stuffed 11-0

Re: Mosconi Cup
Glad to see my 'prediction' proved to be so boss-eyed. I hadn't realised the Yanks hadn't won it since 2005 and that they're taking this latest spanking in the usual gracious manner. Apparently Rodney 'The Plonker' Morris lost the plot a couple of years ago. Perhaps it'll be Strickland's turn this year.

Americans being taught another lesson. Watching Archer get blown away 6-0 was enjoyable. Absolutely dominated again. Expect it to be wrapped up tonight.

It was probably the end result but i really enjoyed this years contest . It was great to see the Americans being put to the sword .
I did hate the crowd though with the over the top USA USA chants
