Manny Steward wrecks careers! Empty Manny Steward wrecks careers!

Post by ONETWOFOREVER Fri 09 Dec 2011, 3:53 pm

Steward is a ATG trainer but he is responsible for wrecking the following careers....

Jermaine Taylor - Asked to step in for the first Kelly Pavlik fight and Taylor not only lost but was never the same fighter again.

Nazeem Hamed - Only Ingle could train Naz but Steward ruined his raw talent by trying to input a more defensive element to his game.......did'nt work.

Hearns had a shocking career and he only really improved after he left Steward.

Certain trainers are better for certain styles, I personally think Naz was not right for him. Not every trainer is great at everything but to say he's directly involved in Taylors downfall is just daft, sorry.

Do you mean to say that Steward specialises in tall rangy fighters with a good jab and doesn't have an outstanding record with those of differing styles?

If so I agree.

Not sure how much you can blame Manny for derailing their careers.

JT seemed to struggle in every fight he had post Hopkins.

Naz only lost once to a fighter who simply had his number.

The work he did with Hearns in my opinion is his greatest achievement though.

When you consider he either trained or had an involvement in the careers of the following
Dennis Andries
Wilfred Benítez
Julio César Chávez
Kermit Cintron
Miguel Cotto
Oscar De La Hoya
Domonique Dolton
Naseem Hamed
Thomas Hearns
Evander Holyfield
John David Jackson
Hilmer Kenty
Ole Klemetsen
Wladimir Klitschko
Lennox Lewis
Michael Moorer
Oliver McCall
Mike McCallum
Milton McCrory
Steve McCrory
Gerald McClellan
Jimmy Paul
Jermain Taylor
Duane Thomas
James Toney
Yuriorkis Gamboa
(Courtesy of Google)

He can't be that bad.

Lewis 2 losses to fighters a man of his stature should beat. Steward is good with fighters he has from scratch but he has also a shocking record. Wlad up to now has done the same thing he always done and Steward can't seem to get his instructions through.

Steward was in the opposite corner for one of them.

Is this the same Wlad that is currently HW world champion. Doh

With no real challenges on the horizon due to beating pretty much all there is in his division.

OneTwo I don't understand, what has he done with Wlad? He's made him more diverse (Believe it or not) He's worked on defense, isn't it strange he hasn't been tagged since he started working with him. He's also better at exerting pressure upon opponents when he can and his footwork has improved.

He's a good trainer for the right type of fighters, in fact I would say great.

Michael Moorer - wrecked.

Never had a chin

Jermain Taylor - Unbeaten before Steward wrecked

Smokescreen with the two BHop wins?

Nazeem Hamed - the same unbeaten and wrecked

Was overrated anyway and just got found out.

G.Man - wrecked his career by walking out on him before Benn fight.

Didn't GMan get that clown with the army hat in because he viewed it as an easy fight and figured he didn't need to pay Steward the big retainer he was on?

Moorer had a bad chin yes but this was exposed against Cooper so why could Steward do nothing to rectify the problem?

Jermain Taylor beat Pavlik in the amature yet struggled badly against him in the pros.

Nazeem Hamed Steward just could do nothing with him - no way over rated.

G.Man Steward walked out on his fighter. Benn would never had won had Steward been in the corner.

And not every trainer has 100% success. Roach has had plenty lose fights, Brother Naz the same.

A sign of a great trainer are the fighters he attracts, and he has an impressive resume. If guys thought their careers would get wrecked they wouldn't go to him... But they did, so go figure.

Just because a fighter loses under a trainer dosent make the trainer bad or in you're case 'wreck the fighters career'. Coxy hits nail on head if Manny is attracting these so called top fighters then why would they go to him if their careers will be wrecked!!

I think reading up about Charlie Goldman would give many an insight into what makes a top trainer. Slowly and methodically Charlie trained the great Rocky Marciano, most other trainers would probably have ruined Rocky but Charlie molded Rocky into the undefeated fighting machine that he became.

Cus D´Amato was another legendary trainer, who produced Patterson and Tyson.

Eddie Futch Joe Fraziers 'r.i.p' trainer, is rated by many as greatest trainer ever lived.

Of course Az will argue that he actually ruined Rocky's career.

Manny pumps out champions.

He can't make every single fighter undefeated - name one trainer who everyone who goes through his gym becomes an undefeated boxer.

Have a great weekend poxy. Hope you stop thinking of me and give your hands a break. Charlie was good. Better sniffed than smoked (or so Windy told me) but there you go. But Goldman was good for Rocky. Turned the man's physical limitations into an asset.

Steward is a great trainer without doubt, the successes he's had far far outweigh the failures and can the blame for Hameds and Taylors losses really be held against him, nobody could have got Hamed to train properly by that stage of his career.
