Pass the tissues!
I'm more of a reader of this forum, and in all honesty have only been into boxing for a couple of years so my knowledge is very limited. For example I've only just watched the Bruno - McCall fight in which Frank finally wins a world title, and well.. instruct me to nip to tesco and get a box of tampons all you like, but I actually found myself wanting to well up in the closing stages. Seeing Naz and Nigel Benn in the background, the latter throwing every punch with Frank it seamed, like he was trying to fight the last round for him, was brilliant to see and having seen the Benn - Gman fight Bruno did exactly the same.
Anyways to get back on to the subject, what fights have you seen live in recent memory, where a fairytale was completed and you lost your machismo for just a moment? (Cue no response as you're all hard as coffin nails, haha)

Re: Pass the tissues!
Obviously didn't cry because as a Yorkshireman have only ever shed a tear at the passing of Brian Glover (and the bit at the end of Kes where there Judd kills his bird) but have to be honest found Clinton Woods finally winning a world title at the fourth time of asking pretty emotional, particularly as he was able to do it in front of a local crowd.

Morales against Maidana! I was far more emotionally involved in that than I usually would be! Threw every punch with El Terrible, and was devastated when he didn't get the decision!
Re: Pass the tissues!
I am not 'hard as nails' by any stretch, but I have never even come close to crying or getting emotional at a boxing match. I did actually go to the Bruno v McCall fight and there were a few tears in the stadium, but not from me.

Re: Pass the tissues!
I imagine you weren't the only one who found themselves welling up when Bruno finally achieved his dream, Jimbop!
Don't think I've ever shed any tears, but Bruno was my first boxing hero when I started following the sport as a very young kid. Remember my old man getting me up in the early hours to watch his defence against Tyson in early 1996 - I was champing at the bit!
Needless to say, twenty minutes later I was in a right funk! Didn't turn the waterworks on, but probably the closest I've come, and not for the right reasons either!

Dennis Andries' finally getting his hands on a world title touched me at the time.
Real rags - to - riches story, that one, and a triumph of guts and determination. Icing on the cake was that, according to newspapers, he remained completely unaffected by it all and still lived in his Hackney flat, shunning the trappings that sudden ( comparative ) wealth and fame can bring.
Wouldn't go as far as to say that I was misty eyed over it all but I was certainly over the moon for him.

Re: Pass the tissues!
Felt the tears almost coming at Hatton/Tszyu to be fair, only ever time I've felt those type of emotions during a fight.
Plenty of fights have made me stand up and scream like a mad man however, like when Mayweather got clocked by Mosley I was literally screaming bloody murder for Mosley to gun in for the kill! Got a million other examples, I spent the first 4 rounds of Pacqiaou/Cotto pacing up and down and during the Haye/Wlad fight I was jumping up and down everytime Haye looked as though he might throw a punch.

Re: Pass the tissues!
Was there at the Trent FM arena when Froch won his world title. Obviously, being local to me, I'd met him a few times, been to a lot of his fights on the way up, and had seen his opposition and ranking at 168 lb steadily improving, so it felt like a real culmination of a journey. The atmosphere was superb, a real bearpit feel to it, but there was a genuine sense that everyone was ecstatic when the decision was announced. The fact that it was one of the best fights I've seen in person made it even better.
No tears, but was high as a kite that evening, huge smiles all round.

Re: Pass the tissues!
Watching Eubank being embraced by Michael Watson had me welling up. I can't help but smile everytime I see Watson these days. The man is an inspiration. I also remember being upset when Paul Ingle collapsed in the ring too. I was "tired and emotional" that night anyway but after all the tragedies we'd witnessed I wasn't ready for another one. Ringside did a feature on fighters who'd been seriously injured in the ring. There was Watson, Specer Oliver and Paul Ingle but Ingle's story touched me the most as he clearly appears to be struggling to cope with life outside boxing.alma wrote:The Benn v McClellan reunion in 20067, which they showed on the documentary brought a tear to the eye

Well said. Watched the Watson documentary the other day and the guy seems to have unbreakable spirit, cant help but be inspired by someone like that especially after everything he went through, certainly puts things in perspective.

Once Haye beats Chisora who will obviously beat Vitali and then Wlad (in a "Richie Woodhall KO's Benn inside two rounds" styleeee), you can smile again!AlexHuckerby wrote:Or my £14.95

I cried at the result of Manny Marques III...thought all along marquez would do it on points, took a punt with £100 at crazy odds...only to be robbed.
Still well up thinking about it now!

OUCH! I wasn't happy when Khan didnt get the decision on Saturday as I bet £10 on Khan by points, would have had a rage fuelled heart attack in your position.
