To continue the theme do you still give tips to posties, dustmen etc?
We just tip the postie as he is really helpful.....is this mean?

Eerrr no.Mainly because I never see the postman and I leave my rubbish/recylcing at the bottom of the drive and collect the bins myself.
On the theme I have been working in London a lot recently and have found people to be really helpful and polite more so than 'up north'.One of our workforce was standing outside Charing Cross station last week early morning having a ciggy and an elderly lady walked up gave him £2 and said'here get yourself a warm drink'.Amazing

I never even thought about tipping the postie and the rubbish collection is poor in Edinburgh I cant imagine anyone would top them. Will be interested to hear if this is common, maybe my postie thinks I am well tight. Could explain all the missing post.

Dame Doon used to be a sub-postmistress so she has always had a soft spot for the posties.
The rural posties where we live are great, keep an eye on the auldies and take the papers and rolls to the isolated farms etc. A bit different from the town posties I would imagine.

I am a postie and I have to say I've been staggered this year (and last) by the generosity of the people I deliver to considering the economic climate.

I'm always slightly embarrassed when they give me money as I am only doing my job. They've all said it's because I'm always smiling and cheerful but maybe it's just because the guys they've had in the past have been right miserable sods.

It is very much appreciated as much for the gesture of appreciation as for the extra cash!

Tips? Nah. For doing the job? Haven't seen anything 'above and beyond....' so I don't think so.

I might tip the concierge as he has been quite good at keeping packages that are delivered for me, but do not see the postman or the dustbin people.
