Montpellier versus Glasgow
Glasgow team
15 Stuart Hogg
14 Federico Aramburu
13 Peter Murchie
12 Troy Nathan
11 Rory Lamont
10 Ruaridh Jackson
9 Chris Cusiter
1 Ryan Grant
2 Pat MacArthur
3 Mike Cusack
4 Richie Gray
5 Al Kellock (captain)
6 John Barclay
7 Chris Fusaro
8 Johnnie Beattie
SUBSTITUTES
Dougie Hall
Jon Welsh
Moray Low
Tom Ryder
Ryan Wilson
Henry Pyrgos
Duncan Weir
Rob Dewey
Harley is out injured, so be interesting to see how Barclay goes at Blindside. Great to see Beattie back in the team, hopefully he can step up and perform like he can. Morrison is dropped from the squad altogether, which I think is fair enough.
Jackson is in and Weir drops to the bench. Wonder how much of that is coming from Andy Robinson. I am not to fussed over this as I thought Jackson played well when he came on last week and he certainly got the backline moving.
Hall, Welsh and Low all on the bench, was not that long ago that was our nailed on strating front row.
I think we will do well to get a LB to be honest. Our Scrum is going to be under severe pressure again and I still think overall we lack pace in the backs. Pity Lemi was not able to be registered for the HC, would have been good to see what he can do in some decent conditions for running rugby.

Dot - agreed that our scrum will creak but hopefully our line out will essentially dominate like last time.
What the fecking smeg is Murchie doing in there? Just don't understand it.
COME ON JOHNNIE BEATTIE, YOU BEAST

Re: Montpellier versus Glasgow
I like the balance to that backline, certainly helps with no Morrison in there. Nathan is comfortable at 10 and 15, so should serve as a second playmaker at IC. Happy that Ryan Grant is restored over Welsh who seemed to struggle at times last Sunday, will indeed be interesting to see how Barclay goes at 6, loks like Beattie will be doing a load of carrying - let's hope this is truly the start of his comeback. Plenty of power to come off the bench, Pyrgos and Dewey aside

Interesting to see how Barlcay gets on at 6. Always wondered what a Barclay and Rennie backrow would be like, with Kelly Brown at 8.
Really want to see Beattie back to his barnstorming best!
I fear for your scrum...

Think a lot will depend on what side Montpol put out - if they are resting their big guns again, Warriors might be ok?

ASBO - I think it depends if they think their HC campaign is already a busted flush.

Re: Montpellier versus Glasgow
Delighted that Beattie is in the team and Morrison isn’t. Nathan is a far better option at 12 than Morrison. Murchie’s selection is a strange one. He didn’t get into the game much on Sunday, although I was watching it online in French so could only really follow what I was seeing on screen. Was his defense particularly good?
Montpellier are bottom of the group with 4 points, they’d have to win all their games including some TBPs to have a realistic chance of making the Amlin, and that would include beating Leinster away. I have a feeling we’ll see a similar Montpellier side as Sunday. They may have a couple of their big names on the bench just to give them a run out. Then again they may surprise us.

Re: Montpellier versus Glasgow
Murchie was ok on Sunday - prefer him to Dewey in any case. Great that Johnny Beattie is back. Problem now is who kicks - Jackson is a lot more inconsistent than Wee Dunkie. Jackson will however get the line moving. Not surprised about Morrison being dropped - he was very poor on Sunday and looked like he was trying to catch a red hot coal and not a rugby ball.
Take it Rob Harley had a concussion as he looked out of it at the end of the game.

Harley has a hand injury.
I think the French will stick out a much stronger side. I agree they are probably looking ahead to the League, but I reckon they will not want their starters going into their next league game without a game in 3 weeks.

Re: Montpellier versus Glasgow
From today's Hootsman: "The Montpellier team that trained yesterday is similar to the one that lost in Glasgow, but Fijian No 8 Masi Matadigo, who scored a late try to earn Montpellier a bonus point, will start in place of Alex Tulou, 30-year-old wing Yoan Audrin takes over from the goal-kicking Martin Bustos Moyano and 19-year-old Ilian Perraux steps up at fly-half, with Puma star Santiago Fernandez and Francois Trinh-Duc, the France fly-half, rested.
There is no return to the XV either for skipper Fulgence Ouedraogo, locks Thibaut Privat and Mickael De Marco, Lucas Amorosino and Argentine front rows Agustin Creevy and Juan Figallo. Georgian back row Mamuka Gorgodze did step into training yesterday, covering for lock Drikus Hancke, who suffered an elbow injury early in the session, so he may now return depending on Hancke’s recovery."
Montpol focus firmly on Toulouse in 6 days' time, but will still be a tough ask for the Weegies

That could be something of a master stroke tactically. Will keep the backlines on their toes knowing that they could be facing 2 very differant opensides at differant times.
I second comments regarding the Glasgow Scrum. It could be in for a torid time.

What do you feel about the Montpol side? They should in theory have enough to edge Glasgow at home, even without a handful of big guns?

They've brought in their 3rd choice 10 for the game, which is a strange one. Why not play the argie and have the kid on the bench. Could be a weakness in the backline.

Re: Montpellier versus Glasgow
tend to agree with scot abroad... folks like Pierre Bérard, Ilian Perraux, Eric Escande and Kevin Kervarec are probably making their first appearance in a starting 15..this is such a different team than usual Monteplier that am not sure what to expect but they are amongst the best clubs in terms of growing their own talent so who knows , maybe we will see the next trinh duc amongst one those youngsters. A bit like duncan weir who was relatively unknown before the RWC and is now viewed as the future scotland 10 alongside jakson.

Glasgow really need to stop throwing big miss passes when they've worked the overlap. They've missed two or three decent chances doing that and nearly had a couple of very dangerous interceptions

13 all. End of the game.
Good comeback from Glasgow.
And well done Sean Lineen for paying the French kicker, haven't see as bad a miss since Godman V South Africa 2008![i]

Re: Montpellier versus Glasgow
Leinster must be strong favourites to win the group. Looking at the other tables, the draw probably means qualification for the QFs as one of the best runners up is unlikely.mckay1402 wrote:phew. where does that leave us for qualification?
The effect of bonus points makes it hard to predict but second place (and a place in the Amlin) will probably be decided by the game away to Bath - a win or draw should see Glasgow go through, if they lose they'll probably need to do better at home against Leinster than Bath do away against Montpellier.

Johnnie Beattie back to his destructive best - well nearly (work in progress). Great 2nd 40 mins guys. Moray Low looked pumped up and ready to go - wee fatty Cusack good too along with Cusiter, Nathan and Lamont. Still Amlin is the best we can realistically get to.
