Scott Harrison granted licence to box again
Former world featherweight champion Scott Harrison has been granted back his licence after a six-year absence from the ring.
The British Boxing Board of Control made the decision after the 34-year-old's case was backed by the Scottish Boxing Area Council.
"It's a nice early Christmas present for Scott and for Scottish Boxing," said SBAC chairman Bernard Connolly.
"We hope he returns to the standard he was."
Harrison failed with a previous attempt to regain his licence in 2008 and was again unsuccessful in October.
In April 2009, Harrison was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty of attempting to steal a car and assaulting two men in the vehicle as well as a policeman in October 2006.
The Glaswegian beat Victor Santiago to become WBO featherweight champion in 2002, lost it in 2003 to Manuel Medina but regained it from the same opponent later that year.
However, after pulling out of a title defence in May 2006, he checked into the Priory Clinic in London citing problems with depression and alcohol.
He was later stripped of his WBO title and his licence to box - and declared bankrupt.

Good luck to him, am not sure what kind of impact he can make at his age and on the back of his out of ring issues but he has done his time so deserves another crack. Really hope this means he has put his troubles behind him once and for all.

6 years out of the ring... How much does he have left after imprisonment?

How he behaves from now on will determine whether reinstating his licence was the right decision. If he has changed then I might wish him well, not sure what he has left at 34. If he's still at featherweight he's definitely got his work cut out regaining a world strap with the likes of Gamboa, Caballero, Salido to contend with.

He will probably just do a domestic stint like Robin Reid did in Prizefighter.
I think he needs Prizefighter to get his name back out there. It would be a good start.

Prizefighter the Light Welterweights is back in February, don't imagine he's gotten that big though

I don't think so Alex, he may well end up in it. It's only 3 divisions higher than the one he was fighting in 6 years ago and in those 6 years he has been on the swig and doing porrage. He must be close to 140

In fairness he looks in pretty good shape here.
Be interesting to see how he gets on.

had a few years out so should be a fresh 34 year old. was good before so could be dangerous for a few big names if he gets a chance

I'm always a bit dubious when fighters attempt comebacks after extended absences from the ring, but given Harrison's troubles i don't see how it can be a bad thing that he's back in the gym and working hard. Fair play to him.

Re: Scott Harrison granted licence to box again
Anyone detect an all Scottish showdown against Burns?
Re: Scott Harrison granted licence to box again
Better chance of it being against Alex Arthur. That would sell up here. Billy Nelson despises Scott and his Dad Peter. He won't let Ricky fight Scott unless it's a mandatory. He wouldn't let them spar a couple of months ago.
Scott will probably be fighting at 135lbs. He was a featherweight but he was huge at the weight so he won't be up against it physically.
