The referees this weekend in the Heineken Cup
I think this weekend we have seen some examples of good and bad refs. A good ref does not decide the outcome of a match. A good ref makes the calls that fit with the action and lets the game run. Dave Pearson's performance in the Munster - Scarlets game was disgraceful. He invented forward passes. Some ridiuclous explanation that someones hands hand moved forward! What the heck does that mean? The Ball clearly did nothing but travel backwards! The scrums under him were a total lottery and three point opportunities came from these decisons. One of the worst performances I have ever seen from a ref. Pearson, Barnes and Fitzgibbon are totally clueless. I thought Garces had a similar game to Pearson also a fortnight ago. There were however several good ref performances this week and Poite, Owens and the french ref in the Dragons game had a good first half before he got injured. I am so fed up of these refs blowing up for marginal calls that on the replay are wrong! Let the game flow for any debatable and marginal calls and the skill and enterainment levels can rise. It's the major difference between how Super 15 and European rugby is reffed in the main!
