European Tour 2012 - full schedule Empty Re: European Tour 2012 - full schedule

Anyone know whey the play an event opposite the US open but not the other three majors or the WGC's. There must be some of the lower ranked players that wait all season for those events. OR maybe good chances for the challenge tour players?

Does anyone else find it odd that the biggest golf market outside the USA, England, has only one regular tour event? It is ok to try and grow the game in new locations but surely the base of your sports popularity also needs to be maintained?

Scotland has three regular events although one of them is so far out the way you have to wonder about the location. I would imagine that getting to Inverness is at the very least a 3 hour journey for 99.x % of the UK population. The other venues not being that much more accessible. Seems a raw deal for the UK golf public who keep the European golf market afloat.

Mac, it's mostly down to tax reasons, you have to blame your favourite political party for changing the way in which sports stars are taxed on their earnings in this country.

I'd love to see the British Masters and English Open back on some of hte great Parkland or Heathland courses we have.

There are 3 events in Scotland, 2 in England, another in Wales, and another in Eire.

That's 7 events in the British Isles in what is effectively a five month season in this part of the world - May to September.

I think that's reasonable and fair.

I know there are a lot of events in strange far flung places, but I don't know how much demand there would be if those events were uprooted and brought to the UK.

The English events are poorly supported compared to Scotland.
With a population ten times that of Scotland you have to ask why?

I've been to the PGA Championship a few times at Wentworth.

It's very well supported, but it's very definitely a 'corporate set' who attend, as opposed to the events in Scotland which are much more about regular golfers on a day out.

Must admit, and only because it's almost in England, I went to Celtic Manor for the Friday of the Wales Open a couple of years ago, and I was shocked how poorly supported it was.
Not to mention how poorly catered for the spectators were.

I quite fancy the Wentworth tournament, especially as if you have a BMW you don't have to park next to the riff raff. Whistle

If you want a well supported tournament you can always come to the Irish Open. Wink As you can see, the location of that event is still TBC and the big rumour over the past 1-2 weeks around here is that now there is a good chance that it will be moved back in the Dublin area. Monty's course at Carton House is probably favorite (staged the Open a couple of times in '05/'06 I think), but other sites such as Killeen Castle (the Solheim Cup venue) and even Portmarnock have been mentioned... Guys like McDowell have made it public recently that he would very much prefer a move back to Dublin from Killarney (said the course didn't suit him). Rory hasn't been particularily happy either last year (and the year before) when he played over there. Still waiting the confirmation of the new sponsor (tomorrow may well be the day of the big announcement...)

No mention of Sergios tournament but think it was stated earlier this year it was likely to continue so probably 25th of October and swapping weeks with Valderamma.

Pd. Would love to see Irish open in portmarnock. One of the best courses over here in my opinion.

Surprised that the sicilian open is still there as I remember watching it on tv and I could count the crowd on the fairways with one hand.May have been different. At the prize giving ceromony.

Wentworth last year was absolutely heaving! Think nearly 40,000 were there on the last day. It was mentioned in the commentary how well attended the whole week was. I can tell you because it was so difficult to get a good view on the back nine on Sunday!!

Not sure that's true.
Hoylake made more money than any other Open ever has. Venues easier to get to.

Easier to get to than - the Moon? Timbuktu?

There was a good crowd at Hoylake, but it was very good weather at that Championship. Still 10K people down on St Andrews though.
