Jim Watt
First topic message reminder :
Does anyone else find him annoying?
I respect that in his day he was a decent boxer, but why have Sky chosen him to do their coverage? The man is awful, he sounds annoying (My father is Scottish and is equally as irritated by the man's voice)
I'm trying to watch back some recent fights and I'm having to mute it every time I hear his voice.
Who would you have in a dream team of broadcasting?
I'd much rather a current or very relevant boxer gave opinions, like how Lewis did with HBO etc. i found that worked well, inbetween rounds giving a great insight - Joe Calzaghe, Bhop, Dirrell, Kessler etc for the Froch fight - these would have been interesting to listen to.

Re: Jim Watt
He mixed it with 2 of the very best of his time and has been ringside for a lot of top fights over the last 20 odd years. He would probably be more interesting than the likes of Calzaghe and Brook.
Mind you I've met Watt many times and had a chat with him about the Buchanan and Arguello fights so I wouldn't really have much to ask him.

I tihnk there is a fair question to be asked of Jim as to how he approaches scoring so I'm all for a Q&A with him.

Re: Jim Watt
He mixes it up he tries to score how he sees it but also tries to consider the judges scoring so it's more accurate. He likes aggression probably because he was that sort of fighter.

I just found out he lives down the road from me and was going to knock on his door one day soon and ask him for an interview!
Do you think it would be worthwhile?
More like you've found where he lives 400 miles away and want some of his daughter...

That's the problem Kev, he'd be better just calling it how he sees it instead of trying to predict the judges (who could predict Ian John Lewis??!!!). He's trying to be too clever. Call it as you see it - if it's different from the judges then so be it. Jim tends to not only call the fight wrong but be miles away from the judges regardless of how badly they've scored it. In trying to hedge his bets he often loses on both counts. Also, for god sake, Jim try to score a round 10 -10 every now and again.

Fists you've never been up here have you? Glasgow's an exciting place nothing funnier than seeing a junkie fight an alkie for a pound while 5 hoodies record it on their iphones.

Yeah I've been up to Glasgow, Edinburgh and the highlands, but not for too long!
Superfly, agree, sometimes you just have to score a round 10-10 (first round of Ward vs Froch, would be an example) yet Watt always scores that round to the home fighter or the favourite, ridiculous, just be honest and if it is different from the judges nobody will care too much, especially given the recent standard of judging!

The problem with scoring a round even is commissions like Las Vegas and California have urged judges not to.

Re: Jim Watt
It's daft if that is true though, don't you think? Whilst I don't want to see 5 or 6 rounds scored even, the odd couple here and there won't harm anyone, and will stop such wide scorecards for fights that actually weren't that wide.
Re: Jim Watt
I always try and pick a winner in a round. In three minutes I tend to think someone will have done enough to win it. Even if I have to give it to a guy for defence I will.
I don't like the ten point scoring system 10/9 if you win a close round 10/9 if you comfortably win a round doesn't make sense imo.

I never score rounds 10/10 anymore, there's no point the judges don't do it, you just pick a winner of the round.

Think the cravat was an unwise choice on Tina's part.

It was my Edward I t-shirt that did it.

A cravat is more of an East coast bit of clobber. In the West we wear tracksuits.
