He was talked about as maybe stepping up a level, has he dropped of the radar now! or getting Ravens time?
Never recreated his one outstanding season so was put on hold.
With the emergence of Jackson and McKinney he is now considered a backward step and is not under consideration

What the flip would we want them for?! Those guys aren't fit to lace IHumphs boots. I'd rather have Niall O'Connor back.
Was it McKinney who played against Leinster? If so he seriously looks the part.
Not sure that Jackson looks like a genuine fly half from what I've seen, he looks more of a 15 or 12 with that pace and eye for a gap and doesn't seem to have the control to play 10. Maybe I'm wrong on that though.
1. Agree totally. We have better reserves in Jackson and McKinney.
2. Sorry I disagree. Jackson is/will be a very good fly-half. I first saw him playing in the combined Leinster/Ulster team at the opening of the new Landsdown stadium. Luke Marshall took a lot of the plaudits that day but Jackson was equally impressive. He just hasn't been given enough time at Ulster so far with the continual use of Humphries and also with "in-game" back up like Paddy and Pienaar. When he was used last year playing between those too experienced players I felt he wasn't trusted sufficiently to express himself. Given time in the position I am sure he will show what a good prospect he is. Nothing wrong with pace and an eye for a gap at 10?

Re: Ulster team v Edinburgh named
I don't think Luke Marshall should be ruled out of playing flyhalf at some stage of his career. He is being encouraged to play 12 and that is right for him at this stage in his career, but he showed at schoolboy level he can run a game from 10. Running is his strength but he should be encouraged to develop his kicking too and that would help him at inside centre and increase his general worth to the team.
McKinney has a good all round game and he works really hard to improve his weaknesses. He could be the safe choice and consistent performer that was hoped NOC might become.
Jackson is the most complete natural player, but most importantly plays with his head on the pitch, and is a student of the game off it. He thinks like a flyhalf and trusts his instincts which are normally good. With more experience of the higher level he will become a serious option sooner rather than later.

Doesn't look like it Rodders. Just checked BBC Alba and they aren't showing it. BBC Ulster Radio with a photograph of Nasher in front of you is your best bet

Re: Ulster team v Edinburgh named
Dissappointed this game isnt going to be televised there go my plans for 2night anyway. Very strong team lets hope there is no injuries for the big one next week, i think D'arcy will start next week unless Treblanche has a stormer later on. D'arcy form has been pretty good since he was given a few games to show what he can do, also hope Faloon gets some gametime too he looked very sharp last week.
Im pretty sure Bramby is away back to NZ too, could be wrong on that though

just checked Yenisey-STM Krasnoyarsk on wiki, fair play to him I'd say they are a step up from Ballynahinch, and should really be in Almin cup.
Maybe he'll qualify in 3 years and get a world cup? he'd be about 28/29 then.

Pleased to hear the management are looking to re sign Pienaar. I hope we get him for a couple of years. Hopefully the IRFU remove the stick from their rectum and let the provinces get on with being competitive

Not on the Box lads. Sure it's only 2 small teams playing in an empty stadium anyway. You're not missing much.

I'm at a friends though sitting in the corner with earphones listening on BBC website via my smartphone.
Not great start conceded a try despite scoring two penalties. Wannenberg off falcon on. Injury scare, maybe precautionary just.

Humph off and Marshall on is it.
10-9 edinburgh. sounds like we are losing out in contact and edinburgh are running nice lines.
A lot of people will be pleased to see a Marshall/Pienaar axis

HT 13-19 Ulster.
Decent scoreline but the performance seems mixed. Ferris sounds immense.

19-13 at half time to Ulster, sounds like our 2nd try was a super counter attack involving Trimble, Ferris and Tuhoy to score. Decent score at half time lets hope we kick on, for anyone wanting to listen to the game online. Log on to the bbc.co.uk/sport webpage and in the top right hand corner there is a link to follow to the game

13-32 Ulster. Trimble try after a good break from Marshall apparently. From the sounds of it Trimble, Ferris, Marshall all going very well. If Humph is down it looks like Marshall has done enough to get the spot. fair play to him.
Pienaar kicking well it seems

Conversion over 32-20 to Ulster. Apparently Ulster gifted the earlier try to Edinburgh as well.

Cave in the corner for Ulster. Marshall outstanding. Bonus point on the road. Excellent. Converted 39-20.

Dodger
I would maybe think marshall has done enough to warrant inclusion in place of humphreys. Afoa and Ferris seem to be everywhere again as is Muller. Wanneburg will be a loss though (as will Humph i guess)

Wont mind seeing Marshall and Pienaar start but it would still be good to have Humphreys available.

From the sounds of it Marshall/Pienaar have been excellent tonight. I wouldn't worry if iHumph wasn't fit actually.

Really, so whats the plan if one of them goes off injured - Wallace to 10?
Would rather Humphreys was available either way.

Well qualified Dodger. Pienaar does seem to be kicking beautifully.
20-42.
Confidence will be great. Enough balls up and turnovers to keep the feet grounded i think but a convincing win none the less.

Probably Dodger. Hope Wallace is fully fit although I would have no problem starting Whitten with Wallace on the bench.
Any away performance that yields a try bonus point has to be applauded and we never really clicked in this fixture over the last few years. Still a couple of areas to look at in terms of giving away possession but should set us up well for next weekend.

Ye Whitten has really stepped up and taken his opportunity in these last two matches.
I think we will beat Leicester at Ravenhill, whether or not it will be enough remains to be seen.

Very impressive result for Ulster, winning bonus point at murrayfield is no easy task especially after the bit of form from Edinburgh

Just listening to the debate on Radio Ulster. Tony McWhirter (A fellow Ballymoney man by the way) reckons Terblanche might start next week giving the team a bit more experience than D'Arcy. Not sure on that one but from what I heard tonight he was fairly solid.

No Fly. Proper bad judgement by the BEEB
Should mention that the tries this week were all scored by Irish qualified players. Hope this is noted by the Southern Journo's and TV Pundits

Well if things get tough for them in the 'creative truth' department..they can always go for the easy option:
"okay then...so what's that up above Dundalk and before Newry?"
"Huh?"
"What's-That-Up-There-Above-Dundalk-And-Before-Newry? Don't act dumb!!"
"I don't know. Forests?"
"Christ! Paisley crossed it a few times. Almost got killed the first time and was lauded as a saint the next few times"
"Oh - the border?"
"Yes - the f****ing border! - Soooooo?"
"So what?"
"So what can we write for the back pages tomorrow?"
"Bunch of Bloody Foreigners cream Edinburgh?"
"That'll do nicely, pig"

In the main it was good. Ulster are now showing some of the form that had us getting excited last year. Making progress up the Rabo Table so a top four place is gettable and a win next weekend will set us up for a cracker against Clermont.

From the Ulster Rugby website: -
Injury Update
Both Ian Humphreys and Pedrie Wannenburg left the field early in the first half. Reports from Edinburgh are that Pedrie has a foot injury that is settling well and that Ian had a tightness in his hamstring. While Rory Best and Stephen Ferris also left the field early there were no injury concerns and Paddy Wallace has also reacted well so far to his first rugby since an operation on his hand. We'll have an update on Monday.
