ospreys in talks with lewis roberts
with the ospreys in talks with eiffion lewis roberts it looks like adam will be leaving for sure, with the salary cap theres no way the o's could afford the two . my oppinion i think eiffion will be a good replacement considering the circum stance.

Rugby,
I was hoping we could afford him down at Dave but very much doubt it, he would be a very good replacement for Adam and good for Wales as well.
However on the pay front I am guessing he would have to take a pay cut coming from Toulon so I guess ut depends if the new salary cap implemented by the Regions means the Os could afford him either?

RUgby,
It would be a very good signing but and I know this may ruffle few feathers, if he does sign then please lets hope the coaches do't go messing him about between Loose and Tight.
He is a specialist T/Head so leave him there to do what he does best.

Why can Lewis Roberts demand such a high salary?

Really should be at Scarlets as that's his region. I think the players have to feel that they belong to a region, as a lot of them move region without a second thought.

Kingshu,
Didn't he go to Sale because the Scarlets thought he wasn't good enough originally when he was at Ruthin I think.
Sure I watched a piece about him on Scrum V

Why can Lewis Roberts demand such a high salary?.
Because he's a good scrummaging prop. Same reason most tightheads seem to be able to get paid more than anyone else. He'll give whichever club he goes too a solid cornerstone to the scrum and serious mass in the tight exchanges.
A good player. Would be better for Wales if the Ospreys kept Jones and Roberts went to the Scarlets/Blues/Dragons and that way the propping strength was added to rather than one in one out but there you go.

I dont really know too much about him, save to say he's supposed to be a huge lump of a bloke.
Even if Adam Jones goes though the Ospreys still have Cai Griffiths, he could probably use a run of games and be given a chance.

Even though Cai has improved this season, he is still not a regional level prop and never will be. His scrummage is suspect and his work rate around the pitch is minimal.
So if we bring in Roberts, do we let Cai go or keep him and lose Jarvis?

I would let Jarvis go simply because he isnt Welsh and takes up a NWQ spot.
I'd like to see Cai given an extended run in the team.

I must be honest I thought he used the 'I want to play close to home' as his arguement for playing at Sale over the Scarlets.
I think he is a decent prop, but may be a bit too much of a lump style prop to fit in with the more running style of the Ospreys.

Re: ospreys in talks with lewis roberts
Alan I agree with your reasoning. It's abit of a catch 22 situation really. I don't rate Jarvis much, but like Griffiths he needs to have a run of games. Neither will get that while Jones is fit and at the O's. If Jones goes and we do not bring in a 1st choice replacement, we could be stuck without a decent TH.

If Adam does leave i cant see them wanting to buy an expensive player like Lewis Roberts.

Re: ospreys in talks with lewis roberts
Please get rid of Griffiths, give him to the Dragons, London Welsh or someone.
Regarding Roberts being a lump prop, he isn't. He is far more mobile than Adam Jones. Being a Sale fan myself he was a very good player, very mobile for a big man with good hands as well and a big carrier.
Although Maestag you're probably right, he would be expensive and the direction the regions are now heading with cutting costs he might be too much. A good tighthead is priceless though. I'd much rather have him than Stowers

Players move between Provincial teams all over the world, even in Ireland.

I was hoping the Blues might look at signing Effion to replace Filise (with Gill to replace Gethin if he goes - it probably wouldnt massively increase the wage bill)
Still, its good news that 2 welsh props could be replacing 2 welsh props at the regions.

We dont need stowers, Foutala'a or O'Toole...! We could be saving a lot of money in my opinion.gowales wrote:Please get rid of Griffiths, give him to the Dragons, London Welsh or someone.
