Who will win?
Ospreys 44 - 17 Treviso TBP ospreys win. Post Match discussion
TBP to the Ospreys
Ospreys (25) 44
Tries: Bowe, Beck (2), penalty (2), Fotuali'i Cons: Biggar (3), Morgan Pens: Biggar (2)
Treviso (10) 17
Tries: Gori, Padro Con: Burton Pens: Burton, Botes
Ospreys maintained their slim Heineken Cup quarter-final hopes as young centre Ashley Beck inspired the Welsh region to a bonus-point win over Treviso.
Tommy Bowe scored early, intercepting Edoardo Gori's pass on the halfway line, before Gori made amends, running from inside Treviso's 22 to score.
Beck's first-half double and two penalty tries eased Ospreys to victory.
Gonzalo Padro scored a consolation for Treviso before Kahn Fotuali'i touched down after a Matthew Morgan break.
Scott Johnson's side now need a bonus-point victory in Biarritz next week and will have to hope other results go their way.
Treviso had harmed Ospreys' last-eight aspirations by holding them to a draw in October but Ospreys enjoyed the perfect start as a loose pass in midfield was picked off by Bowe.
And the Ireland wing raced under the posts from 60 metres to score his 22nd try in the competition before Wales international Dan Biggar kicked the extras.
Fly-halves Kristopher Burton of Treviso and Ospreys' Biggar traded penalties but the home side's failure to convert a lovely break from Bowe proved costly as Treviso levelled.
Bowe had linked well with Justin Tipuric and Shane Williams to take the Welsh side into the opposing 22, but a lack of control at the ruck saw Gori seize on a loose ball to race the length of the field - Burton adding a superb touchline conversion.
Scrum-half Rhys Webb was impressing with some darting runs and he ghosted outside Burton to create the opening for Beck's first score.
And Beck enhanced his claims for a place in Wales' Six Nations side with a second as Treviso contributed to their own downfall.
Ospreys wing Tommy Bowe scores his 22nd Heineken Cup try against Treviso
The Italian side failed to secure a line-out in their own 22 and Andrew Bishop's half-break saw him feed inside to give Beck a simple finish that Biggar converted.
The victory could have been more emphatic as video referee Tony Spreadbury denied Bowe another try after officials ruled he had failed to ground the ball under the challenge of two defenders.
That verdict gave the Ospreys a five-yard scrum and provided little respite for Treviso, who had struggled throughout to contain the power of props Paul James and Adam Jones.
And referee JP Doyle had little option but to award a penalty try, converted by Biggar, which gave the Ospreys their first four-try bonus point of the season.
Treviso hit back almost immediately as rampaging carries from back-rowers Paul Derbyshire and Alessandro Zanni put them deep in Ospreys territory, where a pop pass saw lock Padro barge over.
Morgan showed a glimpse of his talent with a superb step and break but fellow substitute Fotuali'i could not hang on to his pass in contact.
But the same combination worked to better effect with 12 minutes to go as Morgan picked out the Treviso second-rows loitering in the defensive line and stepped on the gas to race between them and send Samoa international Fotuali'i over.
A second penalty try rounded off the rout, which could have been worse as Chauncey O'Toole was denied a score when he, like Bowe earlier, failed to ground the ball under the challenge of two defenders.

Heineken Cup: Ospreys v Treviso (Fri)
Heineken Cup Pool Five - Ospreys v Benetton Treviso
Venue: Liberty Stadium Date: Friday, 13 January Kick-off: 2000 GMT Coverage: Full commentary on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru & online and score updates on BBC Radio 5 Live & BBC Sport website. Live on Sky Sports 1 Red Button
Shane Williams has scored 54 tries in 134 appearances for the Ospreys
Ospreys hope to keep their faint quarter-final hopes alive in Europe and maintain their unbeaten run over Italian opposition as they take on Treviso on Friday.
Wing Shane Williams may return after missing their defeat at Newport Gwent Dragons.
Former Wales lock Ian Gough returns from a ban to boost the hosts.
But their back five could be hit by citings for Jonathan Thomas and George Stowers.
The Ospreys are already without locks Alun Wyn Jones (toe), James Goode (back) and James King (ear).
Losing versatile Thomas and/or number eight Stowers would be a big blow for Friday's hosts.
There is also a doubt over wing Tommy Bowe (hamstring) and full-back Richard Fussell is unlikely to recover from an ankle injury.
Bowe and Fuseel could join knee injury victims Gareth Owen and Scottish international wing Nikki Walker on their injury list.
Ospreys are third in the Pool Five table and four points behind second-placed Biarritz Olympique so look set to miss out on the knock-out stages for the second time in successive seasons.
The Welsh region lost their first European game at The Liberty Stadium for six years in their last home fixture against Saracens and defeat against Pro12 rivals Treviso would mean Ospreys lose a third successive European game for the first time since 2005.

There's only 1 thing the O's need and that's a bucketful of tries to get the bonus points and points difference.
But tries are hard to come by for them at the moment as they seem to average about 1 a game.
Anything less is goodbye Europe for another season.

At least I Evans is fit for the game, I thought the date for the citings were not set so I see no reason why the two won't be picked? I watched the game again and still can't see any dangerous tackles, are these citings making someone money i.e., job creation?

For what its worth (Dragons fan) neither should have been cited and hopefully both will get off.
As for the game its simple they need a winning BP anything else will be a failure.

Treviso are a handy side these days. If the Ospreys get a winning bonus point - something they've failed to do in the league all season - they'll have done very well.

Treviso are a handy side and anyone expecting a TBP win is foolish, I certainly don't think anyone at the Ospreys is expecting that, their fans certainly are not. They beat Biarritz the other day.
Other teams that could shake the form book are the inconsistent London Irish and Montpellier.
Saints also put in a few good performances lately and could well turn things around. THey will be gunning for second place in the pool and a possible Amlin Cup win.

maes,
Not underestimating Treviso but surely if the Os have any aspirations of getting through then they must go out for the BP, jsut a win won't be good enough.

Whole heartedly...! They need a TBP win both weekends and to hope that one or the other or even both teams beat Saracens.

Ospreys fullback Barry Davies wrote:We need other results to go our way and we need to get some bonus points" said Davies.
If we do that you don't know what's going to happen. It's important that we give it everything in these last two games. We're still in with a fighting chance even if we are outsiders, but we'll go into the game believing we can do it.
Saracens may be top but nothing's sorted in this group yet, I'm sure Biarritz will be going for it against them, and then Treviso have already shown that they are no pushovers and can still have a say in the way things work out.
People still think that playing against Treviso is an automatic win but they've come on so much over the last few years. We were a little bit fortunate to get a draw out there while Biarritz didn't even manage that
It's going to be a tough game, it should be high tempo. If there's any game that fans should want to come and watch, to see a good game of rugby, it's this one as Treviso like to throw the ball around and we know that we've got to go out and get the win.
Depending on how this week pans out, even if we know after the game that the quarter-finals are out of the question we know that we can still look to qualify for the Amlin so we've got that to go for as well. The main thing for us now is getting back on the horse and playing a bit of rugby, getting the feelgood factor back.

Ospreys already out of the HC as far as reaching knockout stages goes. To have any chance, they'd have to win both their remaining pool games with bonus points AND Saracens would have to lose both of their remaining games.

Thats not actually true but would be a tidy scenario for the O's. We do have to play as well as possible and hope that Saracens do not.Ospreydragon wrote:Ospreys already out of the HC as far as reaching knockout stages goes. Shaun Holley wrote:"We've still got something to play for in Europe and we'll strive for that. We're going to try and finish as strongly as we can and then see what happens at the outcome.
"We're still smarting at the Saracens games, we gave them a head start, but we can't dwell on that, we've got to look at these next two games now and getting as much as we can out of them. It's about giving a good account of ourselves and at least putting ourselves in a position where should all the other permutations work out we are well placed. If they don't, then we at least need to be in the best position to achieve an Amlin place, which could be on the cards.
"There's been plenty of straight talking about the place and everyone knows what is at stake. There's still plenty to play for. Pride is there at the bottom line of it, our reputation is at stake in Europe and it's important that we get as many ranking points as we can, and to do that we have to achieve as positive a finish as we can. Ranking points and the pool draw is crucial moving forward in this competition.
"We aren't going to be throwing the towel in, that's not the Ospreys way. We are committed to the cause 100 per cent and we'll fight for everything. We have to look to give a home performance that will get us the desired result and will make our supporters proud. Any game in Europe is a tough test and It's important that we're all together for this one, team and supporters alike."

Re: Ospreys 44 - 17 Treviso TBP ospreys win. Post Match discussion
Ospreys will be without George Stowers for their final Heineken Cup pool games after being banned for four weeks.
Stowers has been banned for four weeks for a dangerous tackle on Dragons wing Tanderai Chavhanga in the 67th minute of the 21-20 defeat at Newport.
But his back-row colleague Jonathan Thomas has been cleared to play against Treviso and Biarritz after being cleared of a dangerous tackle.
Thomas is free to continue playing after his citing was not upheld.
After viewing Stowers' tackle on Chavhanga from various TV angles the disciplinary committee found that the tackle merited a low-end entry point of two weeks in the IRB's list of recommended sanctions list.
But they increased the sanction by one week in view of the player's poor disciplinary record in the past 36 months and a further one week in line with the IRB's recent memorandum on dangerous tackling.
Stowers can resume playing on 9 February 2012 and has the right of appeal.
The Ospreys host Treviso at the Liberty Stadium on Friday night before travelling to Biarritz nine days later.

You know if you really look at the players. That Treviso side is a pretty damn strong team. Filled with Italian internationals plus Brendan Williams at fullback who i rate highly.

Re: Ospreys 44 - 17 Treviso TBP ospreys win. Post Match discussion
Yep the Ospreys have to go all out from the start.
Let's hope it's a try feat for the ospreys. Doesn't matter if we concede a TBP. Just have to get one ourselves.
As well as hope Sarries get nothing from their game.

Treviso seem to be able to beat anyone. They have taken less than 2 seasons to become competitive, that's some effort.

Wales first choice
9. Phillips
10. Priestland
12. Roberts
Webb, Biggar and Beck all putting a good point forward for 2nd choice!

It doesn't make much sense to disorganise a group of players that we blooded through the world cup, especially when they play so well together for Wales. Beck will go as the fourth centre and Webb as the third scrum half.
And Biggar as 2nd choice?! We aren't THAT desperate.
